Room 113 News

A glimpse into your child's past week! May 6

What We're Up To:

I am happy to report that the MSTEP is behind us. Students spent two days this week and two days last week putting forth their best effort on a test that is nothing short of difficult.

Wiuth less than 30 days left to third grade, I feel it's important to remind you of a couple of things:

- Math homework and Reading Logs will still be assigned until June

- Late work and Corrections that are more than a week late will not be accepted.

- We have a few upcoming events that you'll want to keep an eye on the Newsletter for... our End-of-the-Year Made in Michigan Luncheon, our Zoo Field Trip, the Award's Ceremony, and Third Grade Camp (don't be alarmed - everything is done in our classroom/outdoors during the regular school day AT REID!).

If you are able to donate, we REALLY are in need of:

- Sharpened Pencils

- Sticky Notes

- Dry Erase Markers

Reminder: We wear Class Shirts on Mondays!

June 8th - Zoo Field Trip

Third Graders will be taking a trip to Potter Park Zoo in Lansing on June 8th. Students will need a completely disposable, sack lunch on this day.

A permission slip will be coming home with your child in this week's Friday Folder. Please return it to school ASAP so that it's one less thing that you or I need to worry about!

In Science we are just beginning to learn about Animals. Specifically, we've learned that animals have 4 basic needs. We've also learned about the various body coverings that protect and regulate an animal's body temperature. Students are in the process of creating some pretty cool animal books to document their learning through this unit!

Social Studies has been on hold this week, as students were busy enough with the MSTEP! Next week we will resume Social Studies. We will spend this last unit learning about Michigan Economics.

Because of time constraints and my wanting to make sure I get through the most crucial content in preparation for 4th grade, I've deciding to skip the rest of Topic 11. We will begin Topic 12 with Homework 12-1 being assigned for the weekend. Students should come to class prepared to share their 12-1 homework on Monday and we'll go from there.

This week we began reading Sarah, Plain and Tall. Students love shared read alouds, so it's been a nice change of pace. We've also continued our practice of Making Inferences.

Students finished their Procedural Text final copies on Friday and submitted them to me for grading over the weekend. We will begin our last unit, writing Persuasive Letters, next week. Be forewarned that your child may soon begin writing you letters to ask for the things they want instead of begging, once they learn the skill. ;)
