From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
I hope everyone had a quiet and relaxing weekend! Though we have a ton of fun on Friday nights at the football games, it was nice to have a Friday evening free to be with family and take some much needed rest.
Speaking of having a ton of fun, this week is going to be full of fun together as a Winter Park Band community! Here's a recap of this week's events from last week's Newsletter. Itineraries for all upcoming events through Marching MPA are now uploaded to the Band website here.
- Monday, October 17: Home Football Game, SOTW performs both pregame and halftime and in the stands like a normal Friday night performance.
- Tuesday, October 18: FALL BAND CONCERT, call time 6:30 PM, performance begins at 7 PM
- Wednesday, October 19: No Band events (Chorus concert)
- Thursday, October 20: Marching Band Rehearsal, 2:45 - 5 PM, Fall Orchestra Concert, 7 PM (Orchestra Winds & Perc. only)
- Friday, October 21: Away Football Game, SOTW performs in the stands during the first half and at halftime and then returns to WPHS after halftime.
- Saturday, October 22: West Side Showcase / Marching Band Pre-MPA at West Orange HS, 10:15 AM - 9:15 PM. SOTW performs at 7:30 PM
All students should double and triple check that your concert dress or concert tuxedo jacket and pants fit properly and have been temporarily hemmed if necessary. All Concert tux shirts, bow ties, and cummerbunds have been passed out to students in class this week. Necklaces and earrings will be passed out early this week before the concert.
Our InstaRaise fundraiser continues to go well, and we are down to the wire with 9 days remaining. Currently, we have just under $15,000.00 raised for the Band - wow! I know we can make up the other half to go to reach our $30,000.00 goal! Let's get out there and raise money for the program and for our NYC trip!
After our busy week this week, next week we get the chance to welcome Future Wildcats at our annual Middle School Night football game! Middle School Night will take place at the varsity football game on Thursday, October 27, and will feature a new aspect where we spend time meeting, greeting, and making music with the current 8th graders in the Auditorium before all heading over to Showalter Field together for the game.
Looking forward to a fun week with a ton of opportunities to share music with our community!
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Mrs. Dana Adkinson
Hello Band People! Kinda nice to have a Friday off, wasn't it? Hope you used it for some extra rest, because we're going to need it this upcoming week!
Busy, busy band week this week, so my "Band Mom" advice is such: get as much schoolwork done in advance TODAY (I know that's a thing for some teachers) for the week, get to bed early tonight, and hydrate well and eat healthy and well all week .. hierarchy of needs works for a busy band week as it does in life!
Thanks so much for the parents who quickly stepped up to chaperone Monday night's game! I know that is hard to do with work during the week .. so appreciate your Monday sacrifice for the SOTW! To quote our illustrious Volunteer Coordinator, Robyn Fodor, "our kids are livin' the dream" this week and they can't live the dream without parent help!
We do still need a couple more chaperones for FRIDAY's game and need about 9 MORE CHAPERONES for Saturday's Marching Band Showcase event. I know it's a long day but really is a lot of fun to watch and perform for other band fans from around the county. Please check your calendars for your Saturday availability! And sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football
A million thank you's to the parents who washed and ironed uniforms this past week to prep for the Showcase and MPA! And a HUGE thank you to Amanda Schaefer, Uniform Coordinator, for coordinating the effort .. and it really is an effort! So thank a Uniform Mom next time you see one! ;)
Senior parents, check your email in box for an email from me about Senior Night, November 4th .. information about the expense (I know, yuck!) and activities are included there. Please contact me with questions (dana@keepsakefloral.com).
And one more Band Mom reminder to leave you with, Fall Concert is Tuesday, so HEM. THOSE. PANTS AND DRESSES. TODAY!!
Let's have a great week, Wildcat Musicians .. I'll see you Monday, Tuesday (some of you Thursday!), Friday AND Saturday! Lots and lots of band and lots and lots of togetherness!

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
