Springing into Deeper Learning

Assessment Practices are Blooming

The thought of assessment just brings joy to every teachers' heart...thought no teacher ever:)! At times for teachers and students alike, assessment can bring feelings of anxiety and disdain. With the implementation of personalized learning assessment takes on a new meaning. Assessment should drive the learning path for a student and should promote feelings of accomplishment and reflection. As we focus on assessment this month we will look at the types of assessments we use, the data that is provided, and reflect on ways that we are involving students in the assessment and reflection process. Also, with the new technology coming our way, I would like to offer a few suggested technology tools for assessment that you may find useful and maybe even fun! Have fun and assess at the same time, who could ask for more? :) Check out these technology based assessment tools! I would be happy to assist you with any of them that strike your interest!

Cultivating Growth through Small Group Instruction

When assessment drives our instruction we will find that our students need remediation and acceleration of different skills at different times. These diverse needs can be best addressed through regular, data driven, small group instruction. Below you will find a video which portrays an example of a teacher guided reading group during a stations model!

Tweet your Heart Out!

Twitter is a great way to connect with and learn from other educators and professionals around the globe! It is also a great way to communicate with parents all of the awesomeness going on in your classroom! We would love to see you "tweet out" all of the great learning going in your room and use @OES_HCS to link all of the wonderful tweets from Ola teachers. Did you know that Henry County leads their very own Twitter Chat every Thursday night from 8:00-9:00 p.m.? To search for and follow the chat just search for #gaed! While participating in the chat end each of your tweets with #gaed so that they are tagged in the conversation! I would love to see some of you join in on the chat this Thursday! Let's represent all of the great things going on at OES! If you have never used Twitter follow the link below to learn how!
