The Week at a Glance
Weekly Concept: The Earth’s Forces
Essential Question: How do the earth’s forces affect us?
Next week our class will be focusing on how people figure things out. When we have to figure something out, what do we think of first? What do we do next?

The Habitat Shuffle
The museum uses exhibits, collections and specimens, and interactive programs to teach visitors of all ages about animal biodiversity, conservation, and ecology. I encourage families to visit this little gem on Miami's campus. I did that very thing over fall break, and I was very pleasantly surprised by all that's there. For more information, click here.
"The Habitat Shuffle" was created based on the pattern of the Chicago Bear's Superbowl Shuffle waaaay back in 1985. For this small group activity, students were assigned a partner or small group and an animal. They worked together to research information about the animal and then used that information to write a new stanza following the patterns of the original. They then created action for their puppet perform this poem.
Be sure to check out each student's rendition of "The Habitat Shuffle" below. Thank you, Hefner Museum for adding fun and excitement to our study of habitats! The following Indiana Academic Science standards were addressed with this fun unit:
- Determine patterns and behavior (adaptations) of parents and offspring which help offspring to survive.
- Compare and contrast details of body plans and structures within the life cycles of plants and animals.
- Classify living organisms according to variations in specific physical features (i.e. body coverings, appendages) and describe how those features may provide an advantage for survival in different environments.
