Changes for the Second Grading Period
One grading period is about to come to an end and a new grading period will begin on October 13, 2020. Lakeway Elementary has 42 students returning to campus for the second grading period.
This caused two things to happen. First, we must place our returning students in an in-person classroom. Second, we must make sure that our in-person classrooms are balanced. Some students will be moved to other classrooms during this transition. That being said, only a few Mustangs will be impacted by this change.
We will assign or reassign students during the week of October 5th through the 8th. Parents will receive official placements on the 8th. Lakeway had the fewest requests for students returning to campus. You may hear other schools having to reset a majority of their classrooms due to the volume of students coming in. Only minor adjustments will be made at Lakeway for the second grading period.
Your family will be contacted directly by our office team and your classroom teacher if any class changes are needed.

LWE Announces Kindness Week 2020- October 19th-23rd
“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” —Scott Adams
Our theme this year is “Spread the Wave of Kindness.” While we are looking at late October to start celebrating Kindness, there is no better time than now to start preparing for this special weeklong event.
To go along with our aquatic theme, share photos of your family participating in lakeside cleanup. We need to care for creatures both big and small! Please send them to Mrs. Monahan at Monahanm@ltisdschools.org.
Start thinking about kind actions you can participate in to become part of our wave here at school. Each sticky note represents your kind acts and helps to start a ripple effect. Please send your kind acts to either your teacher or to Mrs. Monahan’s email listed above. Let’s start the wave!
Lakeway FALL PICTURE DAY IS
On Wednesday, October 14, we will have photographers from Lifetouch on campus taking our in-person student photos. Students will be socially distanced and wearing masks. Students will remove their masks briefly, just long enough to have photos taken.
Remote learners and retake photos will be taken on a future date in January.

Pictures can be ordered before picture day at mylifetouch.com using our picture day ID EVTDW#XT2
A Message From Nurse Neal Shotwell
All students and staff are required to self-screen for COVID related symptoms before arriving at school each day. This includes having parents measure their student’s temperature each morning.
If your child has even one of the symptoms on the screening list, they MUST stay home.
Symptoms are:
★ Has the student had close contact with any person who has a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result?
★ Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
★ Loss of taste or smell
★ Cough
★ Difficulty breathing
★ Shortness of breath
★ Headache
★ Chills
★ Sore throat
★ Shaking or exaggerated shivering
★ Muscle or body aches
★ Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
★ Fatigue
★ Congestion or runny nose
Additional screening may be conducted during the school day as warranted. Students not feeling well during the school day will be sent to the clinic for a nursing assessment if interventions in the classroom have not been successful. If a student has any symptoms on the above COVID-19 screening list, parents will be called and the student will be sent home from school.
Please know that children who come to school with symptoms will also be sent home.
Students absent with COVID-like symptoms from the list above must meet the requirements for returning to school as outlined in the “LTISD Return to School Protocols for COVID-19,” which can be found on the LTISD website at: https://www.ltisdschools.org/COVID-19
Re-entry protocol applies to students who experience symptoms at home AND/OR if they are sent home from school. ALL THREE (3) conditions must be met before a student who was symptomatic may return to school.
● Student must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications
● The individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath)
● At least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared
The 10 days must be observed even if symptoms only last a short while and the child did not have fever.
For your child to return to school before completing the 10-day stay at home period, you must either:
● Obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the student for return to school based on an alternative diagnosis, including THE DATE on which the student may return; OR
● Obtain an acute infection test (at a physician’s office, an approved testing location found at https://tdem.texas.gov/covid-19/ or another site) that comes back negative for COVID-19. **A negative result on a “rapid antigen test” must also include a doctor’s note clearing the student for return to school, and include THE DATE on which the student may return.
Please feel free to contact LWE Nurse Neal Shotwell, RN, MSN at shotwelln@ltisdschools.org or 512-533-6365 if you have any questions or concerns. He will be more than happy to assist you.

District releases COVID-19 reporting dashboard
In accordance with applicable laws, Lake Travis ISD officials must notify the local health authority and the Texas Education Agency of an individual who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19. The purpose of this dashboard is to provide our staff and families with transparent communication. A positive case indicates that a staff member or student who was onsite in a district facility has tested positive for COVID-19. Individuals who test positive are excluded from participation in any in-person/on-campus activity until the school nurse verifies that the individual meets the return criteria set by local and state health authorities. Once the individual is cleared to return, their case is removed from the dashboard.
The dashboard is posted on our website and will be updated weekly.
OCTOBER 2nd IS NATIONAL CUSTODIAL WORKER DAY!
Friday, October 2, is a great opportunity for staff and students to remind our custodians how much we appreciate all that they do for us. We have the VERY BEST custodians, and they are working very hard to keep our school shiny, clean, and sanitary.
If you and your students would like to prepare "thank you" cards, pictures, and/or letters, Donna will be happy to see that they are delivered to the custodians on the 2nd.
Our Custodial Team Members for 2020-21:
Chris Weller, Regional Director
Primo Garcia, District Supervisor
Karla Garcia, Campus Lead Custodian
Aidee Flores, CampusCustodian
Maria Gomz, CampusCustodian
LTISD Discovery (Gifted & Talented) Program
The yearly nomination window to have your child tested for the LTISD Discovery (Gifted & Talented) Program is currently open. The deadline for nominations is October 16, 2020. You can find the nomination forms HERE on the district website. Information on the LTISD Gifted & Talented Program can be found in the attached slideshows (English & Spanish). Please review if you are interested having your child evaluated for the program.
Need to check out your child early from school?
Please note the raptor system was updated over the summer. This is the system that we use to check your student out of school during the day. The system requires a photo ID of the parent. All previous photo ID's were cleared out during this summer update. Unfortunately, you will need to come to the office and give Lisa your photo ID to put into the system.
One School, One Book
This fall, we will build our school community by asking all LWE families to read one book.
Every student at Lakeway (remote learners and face-to-face learners) will receive a copy of the same book. This year, our selection is The One and Only Ivan.
Families are encouraged to read the book together at home to experience the power of shared reading.
The entire school community will enjoy a shared literary experience and become a unified reading community through sharing one book.
Students who participate can earn REWARDS!
This activity is encouraged but not required or graded.

Please Label Water Bottles & Lunch Boxes!
Please send your child with a refillable water bottle, labeled with their first and last name to ensure our students stay refreshed and hydrated. These bottles will be sent home daily to be cleaned and sanitized at home.
Items Needing to Be Delivered to Students
Parents needing to drop off a lunch or other school items to their child(ren) will be able to do so by dropping the labeled item(s) on a table located outside the office area. Labels and clean markers will be there for your use.
Labels need to include:
- NAME:
- GRADE:
- TEACHER:
Items will be delivered to the students as soon as possible.
