Veteran's Day Open House

Thank you to those of you who joined us on November 9th for the Veteran's Day Open House. We had a beautiful ceremony and Purdy students did a great job singing "Brave" and the "Star-Spangled Banner" for the people who have fought for our country!

We have been diving into the books Bully and Rotten Richie and the Ultimate Dare by Patricia Polacco. These books have a great theme and we are breaking them more everyday to find deeper meaning within the text. This means, finding inferences within the text and analyzing problems and solutions within the text.

Ask your child...

What is an inference? (When the author of books don't tell everything about characters and events, but the readers have to use story clues and background knowledge to make an inference.)

Which book do you like better, Bully or Rotten Richie and the Ultimate Dare, and why?

Social Studies

Your child will be taking his/her Continent test next week Friday, November 20th.

Ask your child... to complete their map test and grade themselves with our answer key we sent home!

OR you can use this website to practice:

I have handed back the graded states and cities map test. Overall, each student did really well on this test. If you are unhappy with your child's score, feel free to email me and we can reschedule a time for him/her to take it again.

These grades will be on Quarter 2 Report Cards.

Everyday Mathematics

On Thursday we took our Unit 3 Math test. Thank you for preparing your child to be successful with this test!

We began Unit 4 on Friday.

  • This unit will be primarily about comparing, adding, and subtracting decimals.
  • We will also work on writing numbers in word form and metric units of measurement.
  • Adding and subtracting money will also be addressed.

Keep working on those math facts at home!

Update - Our half sheets homework will turn from multiplication to division starting next week

Thank you!

Thank you for those of you that had conferences scheduled this week. I truly appreciate you taking the time to have a powerful conversation about your child's education with me. These meaningful discussions help me make intentional decisions in the classroom to make your child have the most success at school!

For those of you I haven't met with yet, I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child on Tuesday, November 17th.

Panther Times

Several fourth and fifth grade students created a School Newspaper group this year. They will be sending out an issue of the Panther Times quarterly. Click on the link to check out what these kiddos have to say about what's going on at Purdy!
