Free meals continue for all students!

Gainesville ISD will Continue to Provide Free Meals to all Students for the 2022-2023 School Year

GISD qualified for a new program, Communication Eligibility Provision (CEP), which will allow GISD to provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and also eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals. This new approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals. NOTE- snacks will still be available for purchase at certain campuses and money can be loaded on to your child(s) account through My School Bucks like normal. If you have questions on how to manage that account, call the Child Nutrition Team at 940.668.3626.

Food Allergies and Special Dietary Needs

If you would like your child to receive meal accommodations for food allergies or a medical condition impacting the diet, please ensure that you reach out to your child's school Nurse to get any required documentation and once submitted, you will receive confirmation from Child Nutrition that documentation has been received and a modification plan is in place.

In order to modify the school meal, we must have a written Medical Statement on file signed by a licensed medical provider (physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner). The statement must identify the following:

  • Information about the child’s impairment that is sufficient for understanding how it restricts the child’s diet,

  • An explanation of what must be done to accommodate the child’s disability, and

  • If appropriate, the food(s) to be omitted, texture modifications, and recommended substitutions.

Dress Code Reminders

  • Appropriately sized athletic pants (wind pants, sweatpants, joggers) are allowed for all grade levels. Athletic leggings are NOT allowed.
  • Athletic shorts are allowed for students at Head Start, Edison, and Chalmers. Biker shorts are not allowed. Athletic shorts are NOT allowed at GIS, GJH, or GHS except as directed by instructor during PE/athletics, band, or cheer practice.
  • Croc style shoes are not considered an "athletic slide" and ARE allowed
  • Shirts must cover the midriff

Register New and Returning Students!

All returning GISD students need to register in Parent Portal every year. Please update your contact information during the registration process. This is vital to effective communication for the teachers, campus, and district.

Certain forms are required to be completed annually. All information from last year is pulled into the registration to save time. If you have any contact information that has changed please update it at this time.

New Teacher/Parent Two-Way Communication Tool

GISD is excited to launch a new communication platform for our teachers and parents beginning this school year. Several years ago, we began a district wide implementation of two platforms which helped streamline communication methods for our teachers and parents.

While these were effective communication platforms, GISD was introduced to a new platform, SchoolStatus, which has more resources available to our teachers. It is our hope that this new platform will better equip our teachers to ensure effective communication and increase parent engagement.
