Christmas Music
By Livy Blomdahl
We all know “Jingle Bell Rock” thanks to Mean Girls and The Muppets. It’s one of the most popular Christmas songs. I can easily understand why. It’s got this great beat to it plus the lyrics are awesome. My favorite cover of the song is by Hot Chelle Rae. They start off soft and then they do this thing that I can’t describe and then they got louder. It also has an awesome guitar song.
One of the most controversial Christmas songs is “Baby Its Cold Outside.” Some people it’s the song about this guy trying to get this girl inside, others think it’s about something else that I won’t say mostly because I don’t think I’m allowed to. If you can, listen to the original version by Dean Martin. I just love that it sounds like earlier times. The voices are just magical.
My absolute favorite Christmas song is” Do You Know What I Know?” I just love the images that are invoked with the lyrics, such as, “A song high above the trees with a voice as big as the sea…” I also love the instrumentals. The piano sounds great. Please listen to the Martina McBride version of this song. It’s absolute magic.
One of the funniest Christmas songs is “I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus.” It is funny because the kid doesn’t know that his father is in the Santa suit and not the real Santa Claus. The best version is Rosie O’Donnell with Angelica Pickles; you know the mean blonde girl in rug rats. She just adds hilarity to this song saying things like: “Quit kissing my mommy and get back to work.” Plus I love the jazzy feel of this song.
The last song that I am going to write about is “The Little Drummer Boy.” This is my second favorite Christmas song. I don’t know why I love it exactly. The only reason I can think of is that the beat of this is amazing. I also love that they sing the sound the drum makes.
