Faculty & Staff Notes

I was thrilled to meet so many of you on Thursday at Main Street Bakery! I enjoyed having an opportunity to see first hand what an amazing group of educators we have at Dove. I had practiced names so I would know every name before Thursday, but I completely lost my name-recall confidence as groups entered. I hope the next time I see each of you, I will be able to greet you by name. (It would help if you all wore the same clothes every time I saw you, but I'm thinking that's too much to ask.)

I plan to send a Faculty & Staff Note every Monday. If you see an event that is missing or need more details about an item listed, please don't hesitate to let me know. I want us to have as smooth a start as possible.

In closing, I would like to thank Jamie for her help and support. She has been tremendous in helping me get off to a good start. Thank you, Jamie!! Dove Elementary is fortunate to have such a dedicated leader!

Let’s make 2014-2015 a highlight year for Dove Elementary!

Proud to be your principal,

Cindy Galloway

Congratulations Cindy!!

Cindy has been named Teacher of the Year at the Elementary Level for the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Region 11. Jamie eloquently introduced Cindy at a banquet for Region XI District Teacher of the Year recipients, one of 58 teachers honored at the banquet. Following the introduction of all the honorees, Cindy was announced as the recipient of the Region XI Elementary Teacher of the Year. As Cindy was presented with her award, Dr. Ryan shared accolades of Cindy's dedication and creativity. Cindy will now advance to the state level. Congratulations and best wishes to Cindy!

  • Julie will have sample t-shirts for our convocation shirts available at the school office Monday and Tuesday ONLY. Shirt sizes seem to be running small, so please drop by to double-check your size preference. (Keep in mind that the construction crew is working to get us into classroom as quickly as possible. Please do not wander into areas that are closed.)
  • Due to our shirt selection for convocation, we want to change from khaki pants/capris to black pants/capris.

  • I will be conducting individual conferences (approximately 15 minutes) with all teachers prior to the start of the school year. I have time slots listed below in my schedule. Times will be reserved first come, first serve.
  • PLC groups will be meeting with the school leadership team after August 18. Time slots are first come, first serve. The content of the meeting will be discussed on Monday, 8/18; therefore, we won't be able to hold these meetings prior to our first day as a full faculty. Meetings are expected to last 30-45 minutes.

status updates

  • Counselor: Please join me in welcoming Ashley Golden as our new counselor. She comes to us with 10 years of experience in education. If you have not already met Ashley, please stop by her office as soon as we are in the building and introduce yourself.
  • Paraprofessional position: When not in trainings or meetings, we are ready to begin considering candidates for this position with a hiring goal of August 11.
  • Teacher: We are still on hold for our open teaching position pending enrollment verification. Thank you, Abby, for your flexibility as we wait to see our enrollment numbers. Cross fingers . . .

  • Crews are working long days and weekends and we have GREAT news to share! Our office area will be accessible beginning Monday, August 4; however, technology is not yet in place. Additionally, our front lobby and cafeteria area (if needed) will be open for residency verification this week.
  • So, when can you get into your classroom? Wednesday, August 13, we expect to give you the green light for classroom access. I am thrilled that we are able to get into classrooms prior to August 18. Team Dove can get our school ready for a specular school year in a short amount of time; however, these extra days are certainly appreciated!
  • We had a delay in the installation of our gym floor. The floor will be installed this week. I will give an all clear notice regarding the gym when we can walk on the floor. Even if we are in classrooms, I will communicate the gym status separately, just in case we need to take extra precautions.

When is the best time to contact me?

  • Text anytime, day or night. I will respond as soon as I can . . . not while driving, of course.
  • If I am in a meeting, I will silence my phone so calls will go to voice mail. In that case, I will call you back during a break or when the meeting ends (late afternoon or early evening).
  • I am typically available by phone until around 11:00 at night. For those of you who are night owls, go ahead and call.
  • I typically check my phone multiple times in the morning, but I tend to miss calls when I'm getting ready to leave more than any other time. Feel free to leave a message if I don't pick up before 6:15 and I call you back as I am driving to school.

  • I check emails only when I'm sitting: at work (typically I check for the 1st time after classes begin), at home after dinner, etc. If your message is urgent, please text or call. If your message can wait for a few hours or until I return to work, an email works fine.

Most of all, please know that I am available to you anytime! Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Flex can be done before you return. At your convenience, go ahead and log in to get this taken care of so we can put our attention to getting rooms back together when we get the green light to get into classrooms.
