Educational Foundation Grant High Light
Students had the pleasure of attending Open Books in Chicago where they participated in a creative writing workshop. The students' writing skills within the workshop reflected the concepts being taught through our Lucy Calkins Writing curriculum. The alignment allowed students the chance to use prior understanding while highlighting their strengths as writers. The theme of the workshop was, "A Lesson I Have Learned". Students had to brainstorm topic choices, use a plot chart to develop their story idea, and draft a personal short story that was eventually published into a class anthology. Each student was given a copy of the anthology to share with their family. Best of all, students were able to peruse the Open Books warehouse and select a novel to take home to enjoy! Be sure to ask your student about their progress as a writer!
Thank you!
Best,

Parent and Student Survey
Our school will be partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research and analytics organization so that we can learn more about our school’s technology use for student learning. Our goal is to gather metrics on technology access and skills as well as our school’s technology environment in order to understand the connection between technology use and student achievement. This will be done through a comprehensive framework called CASE that looks at the Classroom factors, Access to technology, teacher and student Skills and Environmental factors.
To gain these insights, we must provide BrightBytes with a complete picture of technology use at school and at home. We will be asking students, teachers, and parents to participate in the project and to provide input.
Your participation is important to us and will make the difference between having a complete versus a limited understanding of our school’s technology use. Please click on the link below to participate in our survey. Please contact the building principal if you do not want your child to take the survey (grades 2-8).
