Garden City High School Library
October & November 2015 Update
Research and Reflection
The time from Halloween through the New Year always is always hectic. Here in the GCHS Library we were extremely busy teaching classes and assisting students with research. During the months of October and November we taught nearly 100 classes in the library, and in classrooms, using the Chromebooks. In October over 9,000 students visited the library. November was a busy month as well with over 7,000 student sign-ins. Who knows what December will bring. We hope to see you @ the library.

Check Out Our Engaging Displays Designed To Get Students Reading!
Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week is an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas. Many students were intrigued by the idea of Banned Books Weeks, sparking an engaging discussion with their peers and librarians.
Come Read Something Spooky
Teen Read Week™ is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It began in 1998 and is held annually in October with to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. The GCHS Librarians used the theme of, "Read Something Spooky" to draw students as readers into the library. The elaborate display was assembled with assistance from our student volunteers.
Leaves of Books
Please take a moment to stop by the library and check out our book tree. During the month of November students and faculty were asked to share their favorite book titles via reading suggestions as leaves growing on our library book tree. Check out our Autumn display and say hello to Trish, tour part-time librarian that is here during periods 5,6,7, as she took the initiative to create the tree and display.

You can enjoy on all major devices, such as iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Kindle®. Visit the GCHS Library website for more information, frequently asked questions and 24/7 access to the Overdrive site.
The Chromecarts Are Here!
We are happy to report that the library has two Chromecarts available for teachers to "checkout" for use in their classrooms, or in the library. Please see your librarians for more information!
What Is The Quiet Study Area?
With the extremely large crowds coming in during the lunch periods we have designated the front area of the library a "quiet study area" for students that need to work silently and independently or in small study groups during lunch periods. Please help us to spread the word about the "quiet study area" and remind all students about proper behavior when in the library.
