CHRIST-KING CATHOLIC SCHOOL
September 2022
Welcome to the 2022/2023 School Year @ CKCS!
Meet the CKCS Staff!
Faith Moment
Students will also be meeting their Faith Friends this month and spending time with them completing school-wide activities!
We host our Monday Morning Liturgies at 9am every week (on Tuesday if we are not in school on Monday!) and parents, guardians, grandparents and community members are more than welcome to join us in the learning and fun!
CKCS Code
At CKCS, we follow the CKCS Code which is made up of 5 important truths:
- I am a valuable member of the CKCS family.
- I am responsible for my words and actions.
- I treat others the way they would like to be treated.
- I work hard on all tasks.
- I respect all property.
This Code was developed out of the "Fruits of the Spirit" from the Bible. Students learn about the Code in the month of September and are encouraged to demonstrate it in all aspects of their day. When students are exemplifying the Code, they may earn a "CKCS Code Cred". This is a ballot that they can add to a monthly draw. Prizes change each month - sometimes they are individual prizes or prizes a student can win for their class.

FSL Services @ CKCS
We welcome Mrs. Leschert to the CKCS team this year in the role of Family School Liaison!
Hello students and caregivers! My name is Mrs. Leschert and I am the new Family School Liaison Worker for Christ-King Catholic School. I am so excited to get to know you this school year!
I am a registered social worker. I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2004 and more recently graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Social Work. I have been working with children and families in the Stettler community for the past 16 years in a variety of capacities and am excited to bring my knowledge and experience to Christ-King. I am passionate about connection and building strong community support systems to help families in the important job of raising their children.
My role at the school is to help create a safe and caring environment for all students, caregivers, families and staff. I get to come alongside teachers and families to help their students build healthy habits, self-confidence and resilience by providing educational, emotional and social supports. I believe that every student is unique and has the ability to learn, grow and solve problems.
If you think your child might benefit from a little extra support or simply a safe and caring person that will take a special interest in them and cheer them on this year please reach out.
I can be contacted at the school by phone: 403-742-0280 or email: erin.leschert@ecacs16.ab.ca
To make a referral for your child to access our FSL, please fill out our Parent Referral Form: https://forms.gle/gHeqUE1Jr7FEdUPP8
Picture Day!
Little Steppers and Kindergarteners will get their picture taken on Picture Re-Take Day in October. More information will come when a date has been set!
SLP & OT Services @ CKCS
During the month of September, we will be welcoming Communication Options (SLP) and Therapy Connect (OT) into CKCS. We are very diligent in ensuring students who require these additional supports are assessed in September. Consent forms will be going home with identified students this month to get assessments and services underway!
CKCS Open House BBQ & Book Fair
Mark this down in your calendar! We plan to welcome our families on Thursday, September 8th into the school so they can tour and of course we will feed you! The event will run from 5-8pm, with food being available from 5-6pm.
After dinner, students can show their families around, shop at the Scholastic Book Fair and visit with the staff! There will be lots of opportunities to learn about School Council, different initiatives at CKCS and how parents can get involved!
CKCS Bookworms
It is back! After taking a break during COVID, the CKCS Bookworms is happening this year....and are we ever excited!
What is it you may ask? Every year, Mrs. McMillan challenges the CKCS Bookworms (the CKCS student body) to read at home. If they are able to complete her challenge by the end of the year, she will follow through with something ridiculous! In past years, she has had to dye her hair rainbow colours and has slept on the school roof for 24 hours.
This year, a CKCS Bookworm bingo card will be sent home in student agendas each month. Students are challenged to complete their bingo card by completing a box, and colouring it in. They can work towards colouring in all of the boxes! At the end of the month, students can return it to Mrs. McMillan (completed or not).
If the CKCS Bookworms can reach 25,000 reading points (each bingo card is worth 20 pts), then Mrs. McMillan will provide ice cream sundaes for the entire school. In addition, students will be give the chance to turn Mrs. McMillan herself, into an ice cream sundae - complete with ice cream, sauces, sprinkles and cherries.
Spirit Days
At CKCS, we have a Spirit Day every other Friday. A theme is set and students are invited to dress up to show their school spirit. It is completely optional and not mandatory! Often we add to the fun by changing up our school bells etc. to match the theme!
September 9th - CKCS Gear/Colours
September 23rd - Farmer Day
CKCS Chargers
The Chargers will be starting the year off with the opening of the Charger's Cross Country team. Junior High (Grade 7-9) students will be invited to join the team for the season. Practices will be once a week, with a few meets worked into our September schedule. More info to come!
CKCS School Council
Our first School Council Meeting will be on Monday, September 12, 2022 @ 7pm. It will be in-person with a virtual option. The link and agenda will be sent out that morning.
School Council plays a very vital role at Christ-King. They fundraise to provide events for our students, they organize hot lunches, staff appreciation and so many other activities. Since they do so many things for our school, it does take volunteer power. Please consider coming! We know life gets busy so you do not need to attend every meeting, nor are you expected to volunteer for every event in the year. Please just help out as you can!
