Team 9 Core Classes
We are in our third unit of the school year. This unit is all about technology and ethics. The essential question we will be exploring is:
"What ethical issues should be considered in the advancement of technology?"
Here is the agenda for this week in Language Arts:
Monday Feb. 10th: Students will prepare for a Socratic Seminar that will revolve around the topic of designer babies and the ethical issues we should consider with this specific technology. Students will learn about this topic and receive an article about it. Students must form questions based on the topic and information in the article for the Designer Baby Socratic Seminar.
Tuesday Feb. 11th: Students need to come to class prepared to discuss this topic in our Socratic Seminar on this day. I will give students points based on their level of participation and quality of questions/responses during the discussion.
Wednesday Feb. 12th: English/Language Arts Interim #2. This formative assessment will tell me what skills and concepts students still need to work on before the state reading assessment in the spring.
Thursday Feb. 13th: Introduction to Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
Friday Feb. 14th: Finish introduction to Frankenstein and visit JCMS library for book checkout, renewal, and returns.

The personalized learning unit that students have in Schoology (Scientific Notation) is due FEBRUARY 27th. I will be entering grades this week for that unit. Students may check Schoology to see their progress.
Students can come in to WINN or lunch tutoring for help.
Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions. I offer at least 2 tutoring sessions a week. Students just need to sign up on the sign-up sheet outside my classroom.

Our first unit for the new year is the Industrial Revolution!
This week we are studying the many changes that the Industrial Revolution of the mid 1800's brought to the United States. In addition to industrialization, we are also looking at how immigration and urbanization affected the United States. We will also look at inventions and how they impacted these rapid changes that occurred in the mid-1800's.

We consolidate our data into our Progress Tracker in order to organize our information.

As we move forward in investigating our question, "How do eggs hatch into chicks?," we now have chick eggs incubating and should be hatching over Valentines Day (hopefully). Students have collected data and made observations to determine what's happening inside the egg before it hatches.
One important goal of scientists and our learning community is to keep testing the ideas we figured out to see if they can apply to a broader and broader range of phenomena. So next week we will be bringing in sources to gather evidence to answer that question.
