Coach P
Please join us at Chick-fil-A on McDermott Drive (the Stacy Road location is closed for remodeling) for Olson Spirit Day on Thursday, May 6th.
You can visit Chick-fil-A anytime between 6:00am-10:00pm to help support our school. Tell the cashier when you are ordering that you are an Olson Otter, so that we get credit for you attending.
Thank you for supporting Olson through Chick-fil-A!
6TH GRADE END-OF-YEAR EVENTS
We can’t believe there is less than 1 month until the end of the school year. We are looking forward to celebrating our students and their achievements over the past 7 years at elementary school. We are planning some fun end-of-year events and wanted to give you a heads up to save the following dates:
· Sixth Grade Farewell Ceremony: May 18th 5:00pm - 6:00pm
Two guests per student may attend the live ceremony outdoors. Additional guests may join remotely via Zoom.
· Sixth Grade Party: May 20th 8:30am – 12:15pm
This special event will be for students only.
· Sixth Grade Final Walk: May 21st 9:00am - 9:30am
Two guests per student may attend the live ceremony outdoors. Additional guests may join remotely via Zoom.
Parents may check out their students after the walk, if they choose.
All events will be held at Olson Elementary School, and all 6th grade students (both in-person and at-home) are welcome to participate. More information to come in the 6th grade May newsletter.

RESPONSIBILITY
The character trait for the month of May is Responsibility;
Responsibility is defined as being accountable for choices within one’s power and control. There are many kinds of responsibility. We are all responsible for keeping our own bodies safe and healthy; for being kind, respectful and helpful to our family, friends, neighbors and classmates; and taking care of the things that affect everyone in our community, country and earth.
Everyone must take responsibility for their own actions. We must always think before we speak or act, in order to make responsible choices. Responsibility is an important part of growing up! The more you do to show responsibility, the more you are trusted to take on additional responsibilities. Then, with that growth of responsible behavior, you are given more trust, freedom and privileges.
Talk as a family about each of your responsibilities. How do children and parent responsibilities differ? How can children help parents with their responsibilities and how can parents help children increase their responsibility?

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Allen ISD Pre-K registration for the 2021-2022 school year is NOW OPEN!

CALLING ALL D.O.G.S.!
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is a program from the National Center for Fathering, whose purpose is to provide positive male role models for students by being present in education.
Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one time during the school year. Due to COVID this year, we have been unable to have volunteers on campus, however we have had several dads submit videos that we have shown on announcements.
Well, we have good news! Allen ISD is allowing visitors on campus with strict guidelines, of course. We definitely want Watch D.O.G.S. to be on campus! Here is how we would like to have Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer at Olson:
Door Holder for K-2 & 3-6 Arrival (7:25am-7:45am) & Dismissal (2:40pm-3:05pm)
Say “Good Morning”
Wave
Air high five
Elbow bump
In order to volunteer, you must do the following:
Complete a background verification
o Register to be a Volunteer
o A new application must be completed every school year.
o It takes about 2 weeks to be approved
Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth
Check-in via the office at your scheduled time to receive a safety vest and ID sticker
Wear a Watch D.O.G. shirt (if you have one)
We completely understand if you don’t have a Watch D.O.G. shirt, if you are new to Olson, a Kindergarten parent, or haven’t had the opportunity to volunteer. If that is the case, please wear a white shirt.
