Act V Romeo and Juliet

“Then she is well, and nothing can be ill.
Her body sleeps in Capels’ monument,
And her immortal part with angels lives.
I saw her laid low in her kindred’s vaul”
The text above shows how the author uses pathos by evoking pity for Romeo because the servant has just informed him that Juliet has died.

The free bird v. The caged bird

“The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.”
The text above shows the contrasts between a free bird and a caged bird. It shows pathos by taking pity for the caged bird which evokes emotion in the reader.
