The Average Life
Developmental Stages (Erikson, Kolhberg, and Piaget)
Sensorimotor Stage (Piaget) Birth - Two Years Old
This picture specifically models this stage, but was posed. When I asked my mother she said that I was always a weird kid and that I never really put anything in my mouth, so they had to stage it.
Trust vs Mistrust (Erikson) Birth - Eighteen Months
Breaking News!
Local girl learns to trust her surroundings as she waits patiently to be fed (she was given mashed potatoes but she would've preferred cocoa puffs). She knows that her mother feeds her everyday around this time, and has grown to have confidence in her mother's ability to consistently provide for her.
Preoperational Stage (Piaget) Two Years - Seven Years Old
This is the stage in which a child start to talk and develop their language skills. This is also the stage in which children begin to engage in pretend play as they dress up and use more toys as symbols. They also have a developed object permanence by this point.
I was very into dressing up and pretend play around this age....

Autonomy vs Shame (Erikson) Eighteen Months - Three Years Old
This is the stage in which children begin to explore their environment and learn more self control as they become more and more self reliant. In this stage, if a child is scolded for their actions they may find difficulty making choices later in life because of the shame associated with the wrong one.
Initiative vs Guilt (Erikson) Three Years - Five Years Old
Breaking News!
Local five year old girl makes her first best friend, Katie. The relationship started when the girls were around four years old and came to a heartbreaking end when Taylor had to move to a magnet school when she was seven. Though they fought often, the friendship served as the first real relationship either girls had in their lives. It showed their developing social aspects as they reached Erikson's Initiative vs Guilt phase.
Concrete Operational Stage (Piaget) Seven Years - Eleven Years Old
Industry vs Inferiority (Erikson) Five Years - Thirteen Years Old

This is also a stage in life where many kids are still coming out of constant pretend play, so many children were still influenced by costumes. This was also the Disney World trip when I was seven and everyone was in princess costumes (it was around Halloween time), so I felt the need to be in a princess costume as well.
