Woodland Update
Woodland Middle School is meeting the requirements to be a No Place for Hate School for the third consecutive year! No Place for Hate is a distinction given by the Anti-Defamation League. It means that Woodland proactively implements programs to decrease discrimination, bullying, and violence in our school and community. Woodland Middle School’s program includes teaching 5th-8th graders about, effective communication and decision making skills, conflict resolution strategies, and internet etiquette & safety. A representative from the Anti-Defamation League will present Woodland with its third No Place for Hate banner at June’s awards assembly.
Green Team
Ms. Petitt, Mr. Henretig, and the Green Team have been hard at work participating in their first Carton to Garden contest. Green Team students have collected hundreds of milk cartons from the cafeteria, washed them and painted them. Cartons have recently been planted with both flowers and vegetables including sunflowers, zinnias, cosmos, petunias, turnips, onion, and kale. Winning schools can win up to $2,500 towards their school gardens!
Chris Spillane, Mr. H, and Michayla Mealey using team work to complete the Carton to Garden contest.

March Madness
Mrs. Mollet's 6th grade math classes are getting geared up for March Madness by analyzing win percentages for all 64 teams participating in the NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament. Finding or calculating percents is a key skill for 6th graders and using sports is a great way to help students learn this valuable skill set. Students are also completing brackets to keep current on the winning teams and bracket standings. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place bracket winners.
Princeton University - STEM
Mitosis: Metphase
Our 7th grade science classes put their knowledge to use in a hands-on modeling activity. Each group of students was given a bag of materials and a key for what each material represented. Jessica Dinardo and Tyler Bowker worked together to model the stage of Mitosis: Metaphase. They did an excellent job recognizing and showing the chromosomes lined up in the middle of the cell!
DNA Structure
Our 8th grade science classes learned about DNA and its structure. In this lab, Molly Barr, Lauren Morano and Michael Cipolla worked together to make a DNA strand out of twizzlers, gumdrops and toothpicks.
