Mrs. Boubelik's Classroom
Primary Special Education Resource Teacher
WELCOME BACK SIDEWINDERS
Welcome back to a new school year! I am so excited to see former students as well as get to know new families and students. I want to improve communication on what is going on in the resource classroom. Please follow this website to be up to date with newsletter updates every quarter on what your students are learning in the resource classroom. I teach 3 different grade levels (1st grade, 3rd grade & 5th grade). I cover reading, writing, math and social skills with all grade levels in which your student qualifies for. I will post quarterly updates, recommendations on things students can work on at home, things we are working on at school and curriculum. Stay tuned for the first week back to school as I give you updates on classroom expectations and classroom management!
If you have any IEP concerns, FAQ or resources, please visit our staff website:
I look forward to a successful school year with your student and look forward to meeting with each family!

Mrs. Boubelik
MEET YOUR TEACHER: This is my 3rd year as a Sidewinder. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I graduate in 2015 from NAU in Flagstaff, AZ with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. I am currently working on my masters through NAU in reading emphasis. I had gotten the privilege to teach English and build schools in Zanzibar, Africa. I enjoy working with students and watching them grow!
Mrs. Hershey
Judy Hershey shares a classroom with Mrs. Boubelik! Our school is getting bigger every year and I feel very fortunate to share a classroom with Mrs. Hershey! Mrs. Hershey was Mrs. Boubelik's mentor teacher for her first year teaching. She has taught in a self-contained environment here at SSE (SCILLS). After many years in self-contain, she went to teach in 2nd grade! She has been teaching for 20+ years. Now, she is a part-time resource teacher this year! Your students will be seeing her a lot! Mrs. Hershey and I work together to create a positive classroom environment for all students. It is important to us that your students form a positive relationship with both teachers!
What is an IEP?
An IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is a plan that is developed by the IEP team, which includes the parents, to meet the needs of a child with a disability. Information about programming, special supports, accommodations, and annual goals are included in this document. A complete case study evaluation must be completed and eligibility must be determined before an IEP is written for a student.
What do I bring to an IEP meeting?
The parents are equal members of the IEP team. Parents should be prepared to discuss their child's strengths and weaknesses, any concerns or questions they may have about their child's educational program, and information about any changes or issues at home that may affect the child's learning. It would also be beneficial for parents to come with an idea of some educational goals they have for their child.
What is the role of my child's case manager?
A case manager may be a special education teacher, psychologist, social worker or speech and language pathologist. The case manager oversees the IEPs of special education students. The case manager is an advocate for students and makes sure the students' needs are being met. The case manager works with special education students and their classroom teachers to work towards the goals listed on the IEP.
How do I get information about my child's progress?
Updates on IEP goals are sent home quarterly. Parents can also contact the case manager or classroom teacher at any time to discuss the child's progress. An annual review is held once a year to review and revise the IEP. A reevaluation is completed every 3 years.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
I wanted to share with parents how the resource setting is using positive reinforcement behavior. I believe in positive behavior systems for students in order for them to be successful and motivated. It is important for me to create a safe learning environment for my students. This year, I am using these "Suess Cards"(as seen in picture below). Each student has one of these cards in their classroom folder. Every time the students visit me for class, they get two hole punches on their Suess card. If they get their whole Suess card filled up, they get to pick out of the treasure box filled with some candy, cool pencils and erasers, drawing supplies and other special suprises the kids enjoy! After they pick out, they start over with a new Suess Card!
Also, I wanted to incorporate more teamwork and working together as a class! I implemented ClassDOJO points. Each group that comes we take a second at the end of the class to reflect on how we did as a group (hard working, staying on tasks, working with one another, etc.) They are given 3 points for how their group did (based on grade level) . We have a graph that shows us how much further we have to go to reach our goal. If they reach their goal by the end of the quarter, the class gets to choose a class party to do with Mrs. Boubelik to celebrate the end of the quarter and the hard work they put in! The goals will start over each quarter.
If you have any questions on specific behavior or any questions on classroom mangement, I would be happy to answer further! My contact information is listed on the bottom!
