LOTE Online Credit Exams
Parents – Plano ISD’s LOTE (Languages Other Than English) department is pleased to announce exciting news for our LOTE students. Starting in January, students will have an opportunity to take an online exam and earn multiple credits in a foreign language. The languages being offered has been greatly expanded. There will be more languages added later next spring, but the following language exams are ready and will be offered at the January 6, 2018 test session:
Arabic
Filipino (Tagalog)
French
German
Hebrew
Hindi
Italian
Japanese
Mandarin
Russian
Somali Maay Maay
Somali Maxaa
Spanish
Vietnamese
Yup’ik
The deadline for applications for the January 6th testing is Friday, December 8, 2017. Your student may pick up an application in the counseling office. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor.
Voluntary Student Accident Insurance
The information below and the attached brochures provide details of the optional Student Accident Insurance coverage that is available for PISD parents to purchase. All pricings shown on the brochures are one-time premiums only for the 2017-18 policy year effective August 1, 2017 to August 1, 2018. (Plano ISD Policy 17342005-0)
Voluntary Student Accident Insurance
Student insurance is available for purchase through Markel Insurance Company. Parents can enroll students online using Markel’s secure enrollment website or by
calling 877-444-5014. The website address is http://markel.sevencorners.com/. On this website, parents are able to:
• View all coverage and premium options
• Download and print Claim Forms
• Review a Frequently Asked Questions section
• Purchase the insurance using credit/debit card and print confirmation of purchase
Student accident insurance provides coverage for accident/injury only. It does not cover medical expenses for sickness/illness, preventative care and routine visits. Please see the attached for specific policy exclusions and limitations. Parents are responsible for enrollments and payments of premiums directly to Markel Insurance Company.
Due to increasing deductibles and co-insurance requirements, it can be difficult for families to cope with unexpected medical costs. The district provides parents with the option to purchase student accident insurance in the unfortunate event of accidental injury to their child. It is important that parents are aware of this coverage to enable them to review the information and determine its value for their individual family situation. Please see the attached brochures.

JROTC Fundraisers Coming Up
Theatre Clothing Drive
Have you seen the blue donation bin on the north side of the school? Do you wonder what it is for? Is it time to clean your closets?
Help the Clark Theatre Department put on amazing productions by filling the bin with your used clothing. Clark Theatre receives $.15 for every pound of clothing that is put in the bin.
Items may include: clothes, shoes, hats, caps, purses, backpacks, toys, and stuffed animals.
Please consider donating your used items to the Clark Theatre Clothing Drive.

PSHS Wrestling News
Congrats to your Plano Wildcats Wrestling team! Last night, they beat Ft. Worth Paschal HS 66-15. The team will be back in action this weekend at the 44th Annual Paul Aubrey Christmas tournament held at Carrollton R. L. Turner HS.
Don't forget to come out next Wednesday (December 13th) for the FIRST home meet of the season! Your Wildcats will be facing Lewisville HS and Ft. Worth Carter-Riverside HS. Let's cheer on the team as they seek to avenge last season's loss to Lewisville. Wrestling starts at 6 PM in the Plano Sr. HS gym.
The Wildcats will continue the action on Saturday, December 16th at the Wylie HS tournament.
PISD Dress Code, Student/Parent Policy Guide and School Calendar
Dress Code
We want to remind everyone to keep the PISD dress code in mind when making back to school clothing purchases. The district's dress code may be found below:
Students’ dress and grooming are expected to be in keeping with accepted community standards.
1. Shoes must be worn at all times.
2. Students in grades 3–12 may wear shorts but must meet the following standards:
a. Must be loose-fitting; no biking shorts/running shorts, cutoffs, boxer shorts or combination thereof.
b. Must be hemmed or cuffed.
c. Length must be to the fingertips or longer.
3. Dresses or skirts must be longer than fingertips.
4. Tank tops, tube tops, halter-type blouses, or mesh shirts will not be permitted.
Sundresses will be permitted if modestly cut. Shirts should overlap the
waistband of skirts, shorts, or pants.
5. Items with provocative, offensive, violent, or drug-related pictures
and/or slogans will not be permitted. Items advertising alcoholic beverages and/or tobacco products will not be permitted.
6. No hats, caps, bandannas, hoods, wallet chains, or sunglasses.
7. No type of clothing that has been torn or has holes will be allowed.
8. No sagging pants or shorts.
9. No gang paraphernalia.
10. No visible pierced jewelry other than earrings.
11. All students are expected to meet community standards and school policies
with regard to health, cleanliness, and appearance.
All safety rules must be obeyed. [See FNCA (LOCAL)]
Any student in violation of the dress code will report to ISS to correct the problem. Students may call a parent for clothing items to be brought to school, or they may be loaned clothing. If the problem cannot be solved, the student will remain in ISS for the day.

Attendance Procedure for 2017-2018 School Year
Reporting a student absent: A parent/guardian should call the Student Absence Line to report a student absence. Call 469-752-7200 option 1 for English, or option 2 for Spanish, next press option 3 to leave a message. Please leave the student's name, ID#, reason for the absence, date of the absence and who is reporting the absence.
Parent notes: A student has up to (3) three days after an absence to turn in a parent/doctor note in order to receive an excused absence. The note should include the student's name, ID number, reason and date of the absence. A parent call does not excuse the absence.
Leaving school ill: If a student becomes ill while at school, he/she should go to the nurse's office. The nurse will contact the parents. The student and parent must then sign out at the attendance office before leaving. A student should not call/text you from their cell phone to tell you they are sick and to pick them up. Cell phone use is not allowed during class time. We have a phone available for students in the front office.
Doctor/Dental appointments: If a student must leave school early, PLEASE send a note with him or her to turn into the attendance office. The student will get a pass to leave the class at the time you will pick him/her up. The student will wait for you in the front office so that you may sign him/her out. A doctor's note is required when the student returns to school. The state requires us to have a doctor's note when a student is gone for an appointment.
If the student is driving themselves to an appointment, we need a written note with a parent signature for us to release the student from class.
Other absences: Non-school activities must be pre-approved by the principal in order for the student to make up missed work. The Student Absence Request Form is available in the front office and on the Clark website in the FORMS section. The form needs to be filled out and turned in to the attendance office at least a week before the absence.
REMEMBER - NOTES CAN PREVENT UNEXCUSED ABSENCES!
