Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
November 8, 2019
A message from the Superintendent
The pre-Halloween snow was quite surprising! In my school administrator career October 31, 2019, was the first time I checked roads for ice in October. This is a solid indicator that winter weather is almost upon us. The last focus issue outlined procedures for inclement weather cancellations and bus snow routes are being sent home with riders no later than early next week. Parents of bus riders will receive a text message when snow routes lists are distributed.
A major concern as the temperatures drop is weather-appropriate outerwear for all students, especially elementary kids. Elementary playground rules call for weather-appropriate outerwear as indicated:
• 61° and up – No jackets needed.
• 51° to 60° – Jackets are required.
• 16° to 50° – Winter coats are required.
Obviously, secondary students are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, but they are old enough to make a good decision from our perspective.
As you may be aware, since the start of school we seem to have an inordinate amount of respiratory and viral infections normally associated with the common cold in both students and staff. Staff continues to urge students to wash their hands and cover their coughs. As a District, we have put extra effort into cleaning hard surfaces. Please encourage your student(s) to use good hygiene practices.
Another major concern throughout the year is bus drop-offs, especially for Kindergarten and younger children. Drivers are instructed not to leave younger children by themselves or if a child is hesitant about getting off the bus. In both cases, the Transportation staff will contact others on the child’s call list to ensure the student is safe.
Thank you for sending great student(s) for us to work with.
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent
