Pawnee County 4-H Express
November/December 2018
2019 County Fair Date Change
In an effort to secure great entertainment for the county fair, Ag Society has had to modify the fair date. Please reserve July 27-Aug 4 on your calendars. This includes Saturday clean up, Monday static check in, Tues/Wed animal check in, Sunday animal check out.
The 4-H Foundation will finalize show schedules during the January meeting.
Holiday Closing
The Extension Office will be closed December 21 through January 2.
Market Beef Weigh In
All youth participating in a Market Beef project for next year need to attend this event. Contact the office by February 15 if you plan on attending so we have a head count.
Back up date due to weather will be Saturday, February 23.
Fruit Sale
Our annual fundraiser is drawing near! More information will be sent out after the first of the year, but please mark these dates on your calendar.
- Sales Start: January 24
- Sales End: February 11
- Delivery date: March 2
Bonus Bucks Policy
Bonus Bucks earned through selling fruit can be used at the 4-H Mall and now Valley Vet! Members who wise to use this option need to complete the order form and turn it into the Extension Office. The office will place the order for the 4-H'er.
Items which may be purchased through Valley Vet are livestock equipment, livestock accessory, and show apparel. The show apparel can be boots, belts and jeans (not extra blingy for ladies) along with white button down shirts and cowboy hats for individuals exhibiting horses.
County Fairbook
The office will be updating the county fairbook for 2019. New fairbooks will be available in the office or online mid-February. State Fair changes have not been posted yet, but County changes include:
-
Add a bucket calf +1 class into the fair book. The new class would fall under the market class and would be open to past year bucket calves. 4-H’ers would be required to bring calf to market weigh in and compete in showmanship. Their animal would be eligible for the premium sale.
- Breeding MALE meat goats over 1 year will be allowed to show, but they will be required to come in the morning of the show and leave following the show. They will NOT be stalled on the fairgrounds. Breeding MALE meat goats under 1 year will be required to be stalled all week.
After School Programs
The Extension Office will again be offering after school programs at the Pawnee City and Lewiston schools. Look for the flyers to be sent home in your child's folder or see our upcoming workshops on our website.
