This Week @ PS 88Q
April 3, 2022
A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. This past week was a busy week at PS 88Q! Our students were on the move! All of our students either have visited our Pop Up Paint and Sip experience, or will this week. All of our students also have began to learn their grades dance for the Dance Around the World Festival. Our Third, Fourth and Fifth grades balanced fun and testing, while taking the NYS ELA test. Our students handled their first experience with school wide testing like champions. They practiced their affirmations, their focusing, their breathing and of course all of the amazing strategies they have been using all year to understand and respond to what they read. I am so proud of each and every one of them.
This month brings many things as well. Our students will be taking the NYS Math Test on April 26th and 27th. They are getting ready, and I am confident they will rock that as well.
This week we celebrate two very special groups of people. It is National Assistant Principals Week! We are so blessed to have Ms. Lowe as our amazing Assistant Principal. She has been part of PS 88Q for 20+ years! She is everything a leader should be; passionate, hard working, dedicated and supportive. Please celebrate her with me this week.
We also honor our hard working, amazing paraprofessionals. They have always been the key to our success, but especially through these last few years, they have been there for all our students, staff and families. On April 6th, we honor them, but they are appreciated every day!
On Wednesday, April 6th, District 24 is hosting a helpful workshop on attendance. All families who attend will be put in a school raffle for a great Book Basket! Please register below via the QR code.

Have a wonderful week.
From our SMILE Committee
On Friday, March 11th, P.S.88Q celebrated “International SEL Day”, when classes discussed “RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS” and students created projects in the form of posters, poems or pictures which demonstrated their perception of this idea in a unique way.
As students came up with examples of “RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS”, many classes wrote them on post-its and added them to a school-wide bulletin board on the first floor.
DIRECTLY from the ideas on this bulletin board, a “KINDNESS CALENDAR” was designed which presents a “RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS” for each day throughout the month of April!
We are encouraging classes to read each day’s “RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS”, look for their ideas on the “KINDNESS CALENDAR”, perform it at every opportunity they encounter and share the “RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS” they performed from the day before.
Families, please do the same with your child at home!
Have fun making the world a better place!
“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”
