Tejeda News
Week of April 27th
Dear Tejeda Timberwolves,
We are entering the 6th week of Distance Learning and our students are continuing to do a great job of adapting to the new learning format. Please do not forget if you have any questions or concerns, email your child’s teacher, counselor or administrator so we can support your family. This week we received news that Tejeda Teacher of the Year Daniel Allen, has earned a place as an NEISD Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist. Congratulations Mr. Allen, we appreciate all you do for our T-wolves! Administration is in the process of planning logistics for end of year close-out for: lockers, yearbooks, library books, instruments, etc. Please bear with us as we finalize the plans and we will communicate important dates to save for these curbside events. I hope your families have continued strength and health during these challenging times.

Distance Learning Grading Information:
Due to the evolving extension of school closures and additional guidance from TEA, we have made a few more adjustments to our grading practices for spring of 2020. In order to make these adjustments, NEISD has met with various districts around the state and has investigated/contacted several universities, as well as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), to determine how they are handling student grades and credit. The most important part of our decision-making process, however, has been careful consideration of all the factors affecting our students and families during the COVID-19 Stay-At Home order.
Grading is part of the teaching and learning process and will be reflected in the grade book by proficiency levels. In order to align to state recommended expectations and create an equitable grading system, the report card will identify your child's proficiency level during distance learning:
• Proficient {Pr). The student demonstrates an understanding of the knowledge and skills relevant to the expected learning.
• Approaching Proficient {APr). The student demonstrates a basic understanding of the knowledge and skills relevant to the expected learning (student may need remediation in the upcoming year).
• Incomplete {I). The student did not submit an adequate amount of work for the teacher to determine the level of knowledge and skills relevant to the expected learning.
****Students who earn an Incomplete (I) at the end of fourth nine weeks will be given an
Unsatisfactory (U) if not corrected before August 1, 2020.
For middle school students in grades 6 - 8: Teachers will enter a proficiency level for the fourth nine weeks (T4) in Skyward as Pr, APr, or I.
• For Middle School courses, students will not receive a final numeric average due to the fact that we cannot average numerical grades with a proficiency level; instead, the report card will only reflect nine weeks (T1, T2, T3) averages and T4 will reflect the student's proficiency level.
• For Middle School courses earning high school credit, the report card will reflect the semester one and T3 averages, but not a semester two numeric average; Teachers will use the third nine weeks grade (T3) and the fourth nine weeks proficiency level (T4) to determine the student's overall proficiency level for the semester (S2), which will be either a Pr, APr, or I.
• Course Recovery: Middle school students may attend course recovery if they receive a spring semester average of incomplete (I) and/or 65% or lower fall semester average.

Gentle & Helpful Reminders:
Tejeda Honors Military Child Month:
April is designated as Month of the Military Child. This month we will be recognizing the important role military children play in the Armed Forces community. We applaud our military families for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome. If you are a military family and you would like your child to be highlighted on our Tejeda Facebook page, please email pictures to Mrs. Meza at dmeza1@neisd.net and let us know what it means to be a military family and why your student is proud to be a military child.
Off Campus PE Application Window Open Until 6/15:
Student applications will begin being accepted on April 1st for the 2020-2021 school year. The application window closes on June 15. NATIONAL PTA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE - SURVEY DEADLINE EXTENDED:
The Tejeda Middle School PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders and community members is important to the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students. Tejeda Middle School was honored to receive this achievement for 2018-2020 and we are now working towards keeping this honor for 2020-2022.
We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families, administrators, and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. It’s now time to complete the end of the school year survey. These questions are the same as done in October and used to engage our improvements over the year. Your feedback will help us improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.
Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete the attached survey. Please choose the answer that most accurately expresses how you feel about your experience. This survey is completely anonymous. Please complete this survey by Thursday, April 30, 2020. You can complete it online using a quick and easy Google form. Thank you for your continued support of Tejeda Middle School PTA, students, and staff!
