Fentanyl Family Forum - Saturday, February 25 (UPDATED)
Dear MCPS Community,
On Saturday, Jan. 28, more than 1,500 people participated in the Family Forum on Fentanyl at Clarksburg High School. Students, family members and staff were concerned and motivated to keep our youth and communities safe from the dangers of illicit fentanyl.
Along with community partners, Montgomery Goes Purple and the Downcounty Consortium we are hosting a second Family Forum on Fentanyl at Northwood High School on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Intro. of Ms. Erica Murphy, School Nurse (NEW)
In December, our previous school nurse retired. We were fortunate enough to have another nurse assigned, Ms. Erica Murphy, in a relatively short period of time. Below is a short biography from Ms. Murphy. While most students, staff, and families rarely interact with the school nurse. We want to ensure you all are aware of who our nurse is, in the event your student/s ever need to see her.
Hello Albert Einstein community! I am very excited to be working here as the new school nurse! I am new to school nursing but have been a hospital nurse for the past 8 years at Shady Grove Medical Center. Initially I worked in the postpartum unit with new mothers and babies then moved to the pediatric inpatient unit 6 years ago, where I gained my experience working with acutely ill children. Outside of being a nurse, I am also married and have two children, ages 13 and 15. In my spare time I enjoy gardening and cooking and spending time out and about with my family. I'm very excited to be a part of the Albert Einstein community!

SAT School Day (REPEAT)
The message below was previously shared via email on Wednesday, February 8.
Good evening, Einstein Students and Parents/Guardians:
I am writing to share that the SAT Exam will be offered to every junior (Class of 2024) for free (no cost!) on Wednesday, March 22nd from 7:45am-12:00pm. Every junior is already registered and will not need to register for this test at any point; they only need to arrive to school on test day by 7:30am.
Freshman, sophomores, and seniors who wish to sit for the SAT may register by completing this Google Form by Wednesday, March 1st. The cost for these students is $60 or $8 for students who qualify for free and reduced meals. These students will receive a bill for the test by March 8th and must pay for the test before March 22nd. Students who register and pay but do not sit for the exam will not receive a refund.
Please note that we are still organizing the schedule and list of activities for non-test takers for that day, but that information will be released by Wednesday, March 8th.
If you have any questions, please contact me at Aliciamarie_J_Johnson@mcpsmd.org.
Thank you!
Aliciamarie Johnson, Assistant Principal and School Testing Coordinator
Emmanuel Jal, Former Child Soldier, Assembly (NEW)
We appreciate this opportunity afforded to us by the PTSA to bring Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier, to speak with our students about resilience and perseverance, even when faced with great adversity.
From his start in life as a child soldier in the war-torn region of South Sudan in the early 1980s, Emmanuel Jal has come through unimaginable struggles to become a successful and acclaimed recording artist and peace ambassador. He has released six award-nominated studio albums and performed with artists such as Peter Gabriel, Lauryn Hill, and Ed Sheeran. He is also a peace ambassador who speaks and performs with messages of reconciliation and peace, and has addressed the UN and U.S. Congress. Jal is the author of the memoir War Child: A Child Soldier’s Story (2009), is featured in the documentary film War Child, and has co-starred in The Good Lie, a film with Reese Witherspoon.
Emmanuel will be visiting us, Thursday, February 2. Unfortunately, not all students will be able to hear Emmanuel in person due to spacing. Nevertheless, we wanted to share with you this opportunity the PTSA has provided for us and want you to know that we will provide opportunities for teachers to join the presentation via Zoom, so their students can hear Emmanuel speak.

Einstein is also collecting donations in hopes of running our own "Project Prom" of sorts in early April! The purpose is to collect gently used prom attire for students, to reduce the cost associated with proms.
Teens within our Einstein community who are in need of formal wear will have the opportunity on a Saturday in early April to come and select what they need at no cost to them! The media center will be accepting the following donations until March 17th:
- Gently worn or new dresses (sizes 0-26) (prom, bridesmaids, cocktail and after five)
Gently worn or new shoes (sizes 0-12) (strappy sandals, pumps, mid to high heels, men's dress shoes)
Gently worn tan pants, dress pants (any size for all genders)
Ties, purses, bow ties, any accessories!
Thank you for your time and contributions we are hoping the combined effort enables young adults who participate in Project Prom not only to look their best, but feel their best on this special occasion!!

Once Upon a Prom (REPEAT)
Once Upon A Prom (OUAP) is a BCC club dedicated to providing free prom dresses to any girls whose economic or personal circumstances create hardships in their lives. All dresses are new or very gently worn. We have over 2,000 dresses in our collection, in all sizes and styles. Our doors are open to everyone. No student ID is required for entry.
Our mission is to ensure that prom is an inclusive event for all juniors and seniors. According to recent statistics, teens spend an average of $600-$800 on proms. The cost makes prom prohibitive for some teens. We want to ensure that this dream comes true for all students.

MCPS Community Message (NEW)
Dear MCPS Community,
Far too many families and communities across MCPS have come home over the past several weeks to letters from their school condemning acts of antisemitism. A concerning number of students have drawn Nazi symbols on desks, verbally assaulted Jewish peers, spoken anti-Jewish tropes, and glorified Naziism via pictures broadcasted on social media. These acts have left me – and so many of you – feeling angry, dismayed, and horrified.

MCPS Community Message (NEW)
Dear MCPS Students, Staff and Families,
Safety and security in our schools is a vital priority that we work to ensure through prevention measures, essential partnerships and immediate response to any incident. When our school environments are free from safety concerns, our students and staff can focus and perform at their highest levels. Recent stories in the news have led to worrisome thoughts and conversations by students, staff and parents. Despite these recent serious incidents, our 210 schools are some of the safest places in our community because of the attention and processes we have in place to support safety. To maintain high levels of safety, it is important that we all work together as partners.
