- Exploratory FACS classes taught Early Childhood students a lesson about the importance of proper handwashing techniques. Students demonstrated the techniques, shared an art activity and even had the young children learn a song about handwashing!
- Happy Holidays! On behalf of the staff and students at LMS, we would like to wish you and your families a very happy and healthy holiday break!
- Parking Lot Changes Thank you for following the parking lot procedures when dropping off and picking up your students. We know it has been very frustrating, but lining up in one line has eased the congestion in the parking lot. Thanks for keeping our students safe!

Grade 5 News...
Math: Multiplying and Dividing of Mixed Numbers and Fractions.
Mr. McKechney's 5th grade students are learning a variety of team games where they are doing a great job participating and learning new skills.
In reading we are working on the skills of compare and contrast, cause and effect, making generalizations and writing expository essays.
In social studies we have made the voyage to the New World and are exploring the Colonies by working on our Colonial Maps and map skills.
Mr Whitchurch's class is juggling in Physical Education and doing a great job at it. Everyone has learned to juggle. Up coming units will be floor hockey and basketball. Hope everyone has a great holiday.
Computer students are continuing to develop keyboarding and word processing skills using Chromebooks.
Grade 6 News...
6th grade math is continuing to use Accelerated Math to boost our math performance. Parents should see this on a nightly basis. We are also beginning our unit on fractions and their operations.
In 6th grade Reading, we are continuing our Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone novel study. We had a very successful sorting ceremony and now the students can start earning points for their house in competition for the House Cup! Thanks to all who helped put this special event together for the students - they truly appreciated all the fun and excitement!
6th grade Art students just finished a computer generated drawing using google drawing. Overlays, shape manipulation, color schemes, and tool use was the overall goal of the unit. Our follow up unit dealt with scale, proportion using a grid pattern to manipulate shapes. Currently we are experiencing a multi panel cartoon using 3 frames creating our first series. Great job 6th graders.
Sixth grade social studies students are studying the Civil War briefly and the Sodbusters. Students are also finishing an advertisement to encourage pioneers to move to Minnesota.
In sixth grade language, students are writing adjective poems and will begin a mini-research project and speech before winter break.
Science: We will be doing a couple mini science fair projects to get the students ready for their own Science Fair Project. (Due Jan. 20th)
Mr. McKechney's 6th grade students are currently swimming. They learn different strokes and get to have a little fun on the diving board.
Mr. Carlson's PE students are completing a Lacrosse unit in PE. They will be doing a game unit prior to Christmas and then start swimming after the New Year.
Computer - Students are practicing basic spreadsheet skills, such as, data entry and formatting, using Google Sheets.
Grade 7 News...
In 7th grade math we are working on solving problems with exponents. We will be starting percents and proportions soon.

In Science 7, we are studying the cell cycle and mitosis and the link between the cell cycle and cancer cells. Through several activities, students will understand the basic biology behind cancer.
The 7th grade U.S. History students are studying the creation of the Democrat party by Andrew Jackson, Indian Removal and the Panic of 1837. Presidents Van Buren, Harrison, Tyler and Taylor will also be investigated.
Computer students are comparing the use of setting tabs and inserting tables for displaying of information using columns, rows, and tables in Google Documents.
7th grader Art students are just finishing a massive clay unit emphasizing proper construction, shape and tool use as we made our famous “food” project. 7th graders are now venturing into new artistic waters studying stop action animation. The art department was asked to help build a new green screen wall for our school and we anticipate using this in our near future by learning how to build our own digital compositions. Great job 7th graders.
Grade 8 News...
Earth Science - We are currently working on our Matter unit. Students will be introduced to Chemistry and learning about Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures.

The 8th grade Geography students are studying the religion, culture, economy and history of the country of Brazil.
Math 8: We are in the middle of a unit on inequalities. We will learn to write multi-step inequalities and solve them.
Advanced Math: We are finishing up a unit on functions. We will be doing a video project on functions before Christmas break.
8th grade Art students finished a rewarding clay unit and have now moved into an experience with airbrushing. Their current assignment is to build a composition showing one of the art fundamentals… Movement. 8th graders should look ahead to an introductory experience in digital photography. Great job 8th graders.
The 8th grade band is working on a few new songs for their next concert, and we've grown so much in the last few weeks. Our first set of scale tests were very successful. Our next section of scale tests will be due at the end of this quarter. This group is a bunch of great kids and I love seeing them grow!
Computer students in 8th grade are practicing more advanced spreadsheet skills, such as, use of various formulas & functions, sorting information, and autofill features, using Google Sheets. Students will also make a variety of charts and graphs, including column charts, bar graphs, line graphs, and pie charts.
Activities News...
Winter activities are off to a great start. Many of our young students are involved in Wrestling, Basketball, Gymnastics, Dance and Swimming. Speech is also beginning soon and FCCLA has been in full swing all year.
Of course, we also have a lot of students involved in Band, Choir, Student Council, Yearbook Staff and UBU. It will be an exciting winter of activities for our students. We are so proud of your commitment and accomplishments.
