Staying Connected and Engaged April 9th, 2020
A Successful Week with Remote Learning!
Dear FBMS Families,
As you know, on Monday, we rolled out our new remote learning plan, which incorporated the use of CANVAS by all teachers and students. With the help of the district technology team, one CANVAS page was created per grade level. On each grade level page, a student can easily locate his or her classes. This includes core classes, specialist classes, and two homeroom "check ins" meant to encourage discussion and engagement. We hope this new streamlined approach will make things easier for our students.
Our expectations are that students will sign into CANVAS on a daily basis, M-F, to complete work assigned. Work can be completed at any time during the day. Our teachers are approaching this with a "start slow to speed up" philosophy so that students may find success. Creating work with which they can build confidence is currently our primary objective.
We appreciated everyone's participation in our parent survey this past week. We posted it here, and it was also sent to all parents via email. Your feedback always plays an important part in both our decision making and creation of programs. Most of you were appreciative of the communication you had been receiving these past few weeks, though some found it overwhelming, especially the multiple emails coming from many teachers and support staff. We are hoping the use of a single student CANVAS page to post information will make things easier for you and your child. All staff members are still available via email if you wish to connect. Some parents inquired about the use of live video and Zoom, which allows for conferencing. Due to student privacy laws and other concerns, the district is currently not utilizing live platforms. Things may change as we move forward with our remote learning plan.
As always, we appreciate you support. We will continue to strive to do what is best for our students under these circumstances.

We feel this is an important decision since it allows us to continue to build the momentum we are currently gaining with our new remote learning plan.
