End of Semester 1 on January 26, 2023

The end of the first semester will occur on Thursday, January 26th. This is when the grading term will close for semester grades. If you have any questions on the last day for your child to make up work for their grades, please get in touch with your child's teacher directly.


For high school students, these grades count as credits towards graduation as they are required in the State of Washington and the Mary M. Knight School District to have a certain number of credits in various courses to graduate. If you have any questions about that graduation requirement, please contact the school counselor. Winter Benchmark Assessments

Winter Benchmark Assessments

As we near the end of January, all K-12 students will complete their Winter benchmark assessments. For elementary, this includes math and reading with i-Ready and the MAPS assessment at the secondary levels. This is important as it provides us with real-time and critical information on each child's growth and progress toward grade-level mastery. It helps us identify how to differentiate and provide additional resources for kids to continue making that necessary growth. Please engage in conversations with your child on these, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the school on your child's progress.

OWL Parent Workshops

To help provide opportunities to partner with our families, Mary M. Knight will be planning a series of parent engagement workshops. The goal is to provide small in-person workshops taught by staff to help share tips, tricks, resources, and strategies to support their child.


Our first workshop in the series is tentatively planned for January 26th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please fill out the form below to rsvp. This will help us know how many participants to expect and their needs. Please complete the form for every participant planning to attend. Thank you, OWL families.

Elementary Swim Lessons Begin February 1st

Dear elementary parents, as part of a received grant, our K-6th grade students will be participating in swim lessons through the Hoquiam YMCA. This is a great opportunity we have not been able to do for the past two years, but we will be able to participate this year. Your child's teacher should have sent home information and permission slips for this week. Please check with your child and teacher if you have not seen those. I am attaching some of the details below for your reference.

Mary M. Knight Parents, as we know, social media and online platforms are the way of our culture and era. With increasing ways to communicate and engage with others online comes the importance of learning digital literacy. One area we see more talk about is the use of various platforms to talk to each other, which sometimes, unfortunately, result in situations of cyberbullying. We will be engaging in lessons and conversations with our kids about this and want to share information and provide ways for families to support their children online with safe and appropriate use of technology.
