We love our students and are thrilled when they are recognized for all the positive acts of kindness they contribute in their classrooms!

Miss Wetzel's Counseling Corner

So far, our students have learned about skills for learning and empathy. Skills for learning help students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task and be assertive when asking for help. When discussing empathy, students learned to identify and understand their own and others’ feelings. Students also learn how to take another’s perspective and how to show compassion. Students will now begin to discuss emotional management during their Steps to Strong in Every Way time! Students will learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong feelings, such as anxiety or anger. When we are able to recognize and label feelings in oneself and others, we can facilitate problem solving, self-management and social competence much better!

SGE Spotlight: Media Center with Mrs. Daniels

We have rolled out the red carpet in the media center…for gingerbread characters, that is! The students have done a wonderful job decorating their favorite storybook characters to share with others. Meanwhile, Larry the Library Dog is cooking up a storm as we take a closer look at “The Gingerbread Man”, and other folk and fairy tales. Many students are enjoying using our “Fairy Tale Theater” to retell familiar tales. It has been amazing to see how many versions of the most popular stories are available, and we love seeing how creative authors have taken familiar tales, and changed them into humorous new versions such as, “Snoring Beauty”, and “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig”. “So many books, so little time!” is certainly true at Stonegate Elementary!

Robotics Club goes to State Competition

Our 4th grade First Lego League Robotics Team has been hard at work over the last few months! In November, they competed in the Pike Qualifying Tournament against other students from the area in grades 4-8. At this tournament, they were second place in the robot game, and they earned a first place trophy for their project. They also placed in the top four overall, earning them a trip to the state finals! On Saturday, December 1st, the team traveled to the University of Southern Indiana to compete in the Southern Indiana First Lego League State Tournament. The team performed extremely well, scoring 20 points more on the robot game than they had scored in the qualifying tournament! It was a great season, and we couldn’t be more proud of our team members: Hunter Bauer, Conlan Brabson, Matthew Haduch, Kate Unroe, Derick Williams, and Sam Wilson.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for the generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting the assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.

Did You Know?

ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
