June 2018

Have a wonderful summer!

The 2017-18 school year is coming to a close, and it was an extraordinary year at Lake Asbury Jr. High! Our students have demonstrated great character and a love for learning throughout the entire year. We wish our 8th grade students much success in high school, and we also look forward to our returning/incoming students on August 14, 2018.

You will be missed...

After dedicating 45 years of her life to public education, Ellen Suedkamp is entering another deserving chapter in her life. From starting as a dynamic science teacher to coaching various sports, to guiding our youth as a devoted school counselor, Ms. Suedkamp was a mentor, friend, and inspiration to so many people. She will never know how many lives she has influenced, and her presence will be deeply missed at Lake Asbury Jr. High School. Ms. Suedkamp, enjoy your retirement and remember to send us pictures of your travels and future endeavors!

Scholarship Winner!

Congratulations to Brooke Swenson! She is the first student from Lake Asbury Jr. High to be accepted into the “Take Stock in Children” scholarship program! Brooke plans to pursue a career in Engineering, and wants to attend the University of Florida after graduating from Middleburg High School.

Scholarship Ingenuity

Don't wait until the last minute to apply for scholarships for college! The Going Merry website makes it easy for students to find and apply for scholarships all in one place. Turn the application process into a summer project, and learn more about Going Merry by watching the video below or visit

We had another successful Mix It Up @ Lunch on May 22, 2018! Mix it Up at Lunch challenges students to get out of their comfort zone and engage with others, helping to create a more inclusive school. Here are a few pictures from the event.

Summer School 2018

Summer School will take place at Green Cove Jr. High School for all eligible LAJH students, and the district will identify eligible students by June 12th. Schools will contact students who qualify via a parent letter and phone call in order to ensure their attendance. If the parent/guardian has a concern about whether or not their child has passed a particular class, the District encourages the parent or guardian to contact the school prior to the June 12th date.
