OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS
Family Handbook: Page 28
Over the counter and prescription medications can be administered at the school through the health office. The following guidelines will be strictly adhered to:
Over-the-counter Medications:
Parents/Guardians of students in grades K-5 may choose to allow their child to receive over-the-counter medications (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, triple antibiotic ointment, cough drops, anti-itch cream, etc.) in the school setting utilizing the following guidelines, no physician’s signature required.
1. Parents/Guardians must present a signed parental OTC Medication Form which can be found at usd.385.org.Nurse’s Corner or in the Health Office. Another option is to fill out the medication section in Caredox and click desired OTC meds to be given at school.
2. OTC medications will need to be provided by the parent/guardian and must be delivered to the school in an original sealed container.
3. OTC medications will be given according to label instructions. Current weight may need to be obtained.
4. Vitamins, supplements and other once or twice a day medications should be given at home.
5. All medications at school are given at the discretion of the school nurse who may ask for
clarification and/or refuse to administer any medication.
Prescription Medications:
1. All prescription medications require written permission from the parent/guardian AND physician. Permission must be updated every year.
2. Prescription medications must be provided in the original container.
3. All controlled substances defined as such under state or federal law will be kept in locked cabinets under the supervision of the registered nurse.
SOCKS FOR ROLLER SKATING
Parents, Roller skating time is upon us. Due to COVID precautions, we will be unable to loan the students socks if they forget them. Please remind your child to pack socks on PE days or they will be unable to skate.

Meadowlark Elementary School

All students are participating in an in-house skating program during their physical education class. Due to insurance purposes, we will be exclusively using Learn 2 Skate roller skates. The skates will be delivered directly to the school.
The skating unit is being implemented because of its emphasis as a “Lifetime Activity”. Skating provides a variety of benefits, which include balance, coordination, motor skills, and a top rated cardio-respiratory workout. Students will also learn basic skating skills such as starting, stopping, forward skating, backward skating, cornering, and a number of safety tips for being a smart skater.
Students are strongly encouraged to bring helmets.
We're excited to welcome the Class of 2034 to Meadowlark Elementary School this fall!
Children who are or will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2021, will be eligible for kindergarten in the 2021-22 year.
Because of restrictions on in-person gatherings, we will not be having a Kindergarten Roundup in-person meeting this year. Instead, we have put together a Kindergarten Roundup slide presentation. Please view the slide presentation at the link below and be sure to complete the Intent to Register form for the 2021-2022 school year. This form can also be found on the Andover District Website under Quicklinks. Please do not complete this form if your child attended any of the Pre-K programs at Prairie Creek or Robert Martin Elementary Schools.
Please note that this form can not be completed from a mobile or tablet device.

CHECK IN AND OUT PROCEDURES
Checking Students Out
Office staff will conduct all signing in and out of students. Parents may call to check-out students and then the student is sent out to the parent with visual identification. For in-person checking out, once a student is checked out, the parent will go back to their vehicle and the student will be sent out by the office. School Phone Number: 316-218-4630
Checking Students In
Staff members will check students in to create a touchless system. Students need to have temperature checked before proceeding to class if they are arriving for the first time that day.
