What's Happening in Our Classroom!
GENIUS HOUR - We are in the final days for our Genius Hour project. By last Friday, I hope all materials were brought to school to help your child with the 'product' part of his or her project. This week, the writing will be our main focus. Once they finish their writing piece, they will have the freedom to work on the product. As a reminder, we will not present until after break; therefore, they can work on the presentation a bit after break, too. Our main goal is to finish the writing and research before break, and get a good start on products.
Word Work Spelling - We will have one last spelling sort this week. Please, look for their words Monday evening.
Writing - We have worked VERY hard in writing. We have written our introductions, organized our essay layout and organized our notes into a graphic organizer. This coming week, we will work on putting those details into our paragraphs. I love how hard they're working. This is a tough writing piece aand they're digging in deep!
Math - Your child brought home a review sheet last week and it is due on Monday. I am not a fan of Monday due dates, but it was necessary with the layout of our coming week. Please, help your child holger theirs completed and returned. It helps to answer questions as a whole. We will take our unit test on Tuesday. The test will not be in the Tuesday folders, however, they should be going home by Friday. Keep an eye out for that in the yellow folders.
Reading - We will continue to work on our skills of identifying the main idea and supporting facts, and composing a paragraph to summarize the text. We will test later this week on those skills. Again, this test will not be in their Tuesday Folder, but should be sent home by the end of the week.
Science - We have worked hard with pitch and volume related to the physics of sound. This coming week, we will look at different materials and how it affects the ability for sound to travel.
Second Step Program - We will culminate our Empathy unit with a school assembly focusing on empathy. The gathering will be uplifting, energetic and a meaningful start to our week.
Next Week's Mentor Sentence
We will not have specific Mentor Sentence for the next two weeks. We will be revisiting the concepts learned over this semester and hit a few that are taking a bit longer to stick. Here is a list of topics we will be revisiting:
- Subject/Predicate
- Compound Sentences, Subjects and Predicates
- Possessive Pronouns
- Adjectives and Adverbs
