Virtue Shout-Outs

Virtue shout-outs have been trickling in! Thank you for noticing those students that are going above and beyond to show acts of virtue! Please be sure that the student's first and last name and homeroom teacher are written on every virtue shout-out. Also, have students write their name on the virtue board before putting it in the bucket in my office. Thanks for your help with this!

A Great Idea!

I wanted to share something great I've seen 2nd grade doing, which is an idea they got from Ms. Zelinka.

When sending a positive email home, include a photo of the child doing whatever it is you're praising! It doesn't take much more time or effort and parents LOVE seeing photos of their kids at school!

Just an idea for what it's worth! :)

Anti-Bullying Toolkit

As some of you may know, in December, two books were approved by the School Climate Committee to be the start of a toolkit to be used in classrooms at the teacher's discretion if/when the need arises. A list of books on various topics was created this summer, and was reviewed by teachers. I am pleased to say that the list was approved last week by the Curriculum Committee.

This list will be posted on the school website as a resource for parents and teachers. It is also available here.

This list may provide some ideas as you generate your Barnes and Noble Wishlist. Copies of almost all of the books are in my office if you'd like to review any of them!

Book Fair Idea

A Nova 5th grader, Margaret Nelson, came up with a great idea for the book fair, but it will require a little help!

She thought of having a display of books "Recommended by Nova students". In order to make the display, we need some recommendations!

If you wouldn't mind just taking a few minutes to get some recommendations, that would be great!

  • Ideally, there would be 1 or 2 from each classroom.
  • Names of students are not necessary, we can just say "Recommended by a Nova 3rd grader" (if individual) or "Recommended by a 3rd Grade Class" (if it is a class pick)
  • You can send me your ideas via email or have students submit recommendations on note cards and turn those in to me - whatever is easiest!

Please submit any recommendations by Wednesday, September 21.

Save the Date! The PACER Run, Walk, and Roll Against Bullying is Saturday, October 1!

If you'd like to join our team, register online and put "Nova Classical Academy" in the "group name" field.

(This is also the same day as the Barnes & Noble Book Fair, but it is possible to do both!)

Unity Day

As part of National Bullying Prevention Month, Nova will be participating in the nationwide Unity Day on Wednesday, October 19. Students will be signing a Unity Day banner, showing their commitment to unite the school in kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. On this day, students are invited to wear orange shirts/tops with uniform bottoms to show their support. Any orange shirt will work, but official Unity Day shirts can be purchased here. Students who are not participating by wearing orange must be in their regular uniforms. More about Unity Day can be found here. We are looking forward to a great day!
