Oceanside High School Weekly Update

104 Days Until 2023 Graduation!
The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates!
Wow! What a great week we have had at OHS!
Our Oceanside girls basketball team put their names in the record books, both collectively and individually, winning the first round of the Southern California Regionals Tuesday night and gave it everything they had in last nights game. We are so proud of our Pirates!
Yesterday, we had our New Pirate Day that welcomed our incoming Pirates from our OUSD middle schools to experience what it is to be a Pirate! Our Pirate student ambassadors met students off the bus with cheerleaders, drum line, and ASB leaders who then guided them to additional students who explained their CTE pathway, activity, club or sport that they participated in at OHS. Our students spoke eloquently and with pride in regard to all of their accomplishments within their specialty, but also described all of the amazing opportunities our Pirates have at OHS.
We also had our New Pirate Night event that welcomed over 500 students, families and caregivers. Just like during our daytime event, participants were able to speak with students, speak with teachers, see projects and presentations and also experience our Show Choir and Theatre students giving it their all in the OPAC performances. Participants were also informed about all of the fantastic changes that we are making at OHS for the 2023-2024 school year. Including the 4x4 block schedule, our Pirates' Compass course and additional changes to ensure the academic and social emotional success of our incoming Pirates. A big thank you to all of our OHS Pirate staff and students who continue to make sure that our entire Oceanside community members are aware of all of the amazing experiences and opportunities that we have at OHS. Pictures from the events are below. If you have any questions about changes at OHS please see links below or feel free to call or stop by the campus and speak to us in person. We are here to support you and make sure your Pirate Experience is the absolute best it can be- this is the Pirate Way!
Please remember that it is all of us together that make OHS what it is for all of our students. We welcome you to be an active participant in the activities and happenings on campus. If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to reach out to any OHS staff member! We are a team working toward a common goal. Only when we all work together can we truly transform and increase the success of all of our OHS students!
Pirates you are a part of something big! You belong and will always belong in the Oceanside High School Pirate Community. What an amazing feeling to realize you belong to something bigger than the individual Pirate, but rather part of a 100 year plus Pirate Ship Community!
Regardless of where you may go and no matter what you end up accomplishing the one thing that you have to count on is that you will ALWAYS be a PIRATE!
Stay safe! Know you are loved and belong to the Pirate community - this is the Pirate Way!

OHS Pirate Sports Update
The Oceanside girls basketball team put their names in the record books, both collectively and individually, in the first round of the Southern California Regionals Tuesday night.
The Pirates (22-7 overall) used a strong third quarter to break open a close game and defeat North Hollywood Oakwood, 47-40, in a loud and raucous Wally Molifua Gymnasium. It was the first time the OHS girls program has been in the state tournament and the first basketball victory since the late Bill Christopher's boys teams made two state runs in the 1980s.
The No. 5-seeded Oceanside advances to the quarterfinals against No. 4-ranked Victorville Silverado (21-3), who beat San Diego Montgomery, 71-62, in the first round. The Pirates will make the 120-mile trip with the tipoff at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Against the Owls, Martina Griffin was OHS' leading scorer with 18 points. Nevaeh Mageo scored 15 points, while Alivia Gillespie had 12, including three big baskets down the stretch to put the game away.
Gillespie was also the third Pirate in two years to go over the 1,000-point mark in her career. The senior's 1,015 points puts her fourth on the all-time list behind Baylee Ueligitone (1,299), Mageo (1,308) and Mildred Conston (1,542).
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Golf team on their win over RBV. Kalani Pickett was the medalist of the match.
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Baseball with their win last night of 2 to 1 over Santa Fe Christian! Go Pirates!
