We are Respectful, Responsible and Safe.
Friends, Fun and Finishings!
What a great week enjoyed together last week. Thank you so much to our families for their support of our Valentine's Celebration! Special shout-out's to Mrs. Nixon, Mrs. O'Connor, Mrs. Hogan, Mrs. Burger and Mrs. Leonard for all of their help in coordinating such a wonderful party for the children. Also, a tremendous "Thank you!" to the Crites family as well for their support and facilitation of our classroom art project, as shown to the side, that will be available for silent auction purchasing at our upcoming Keysor Trivia Night! So much love went into it's creation as well!
We also LOVED celebrating our friends Ryan and Chloe for the terrific behavior demonstrated last week, as they were recognized as our Students of the Week. We additionally recognized Oliver as our Leader of the Week. Oliver has been working really hard in demonstrating great Keysor Pride through being a great role model in keeping his body focused, following directions and being a kind friend. Keep up the great work Oliver!

Book Publishing & Moving into Opinion Writing
Our classroom publishers are adding up as more friends are publishing their stories this week. We will spend the second part of our week thinking about how to share opinions within writing, through use of reasons to justify or state their opinion.
Poetry: Applying our learning
Last week we formally finished our work with using sensory images to create visualizations of poems in the children's minds. They had several opportunities in creating images through thinking about what they were hearing, and what could be understood through use of their senses such as picturing what their characters in the poem could be saying, seeing, smelling, touching and hearing. This week, the children will be applying all of their knowledge learned, to create their own poems in class.
Makerspace Explorations!
Last week, we had two visits to the Makerspace to create, explore, design and imagine. Our visits have provided the kids with an array of opportunities in thinking creatively and working together to problem solve. After our experiences, they are continuing to reflect within their journals about their time spent. If you would like to support these efforts at school, we would love to have some helpful hands every other Thursday from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. or with clean-up help. Please let me know if you would be interested in assisting!
Sight Words and Sound Focus
Our sight words this week are: no, could, people, call, water, call
We will also be beginning our exploration of word ending blends for 'ai' and 'ay' in words like: day, say, raid and paid
Thank you as well to the many who assisted in preparing our new sight words for second semester! They are coming to life on our word wall, through the children's use!

More writing being concluded and new topics beginning with opinion writing!
Coin Values and Joining Together!
Building upon our work in adding two digit numbers together and in coordination with President's Day, our studies this week will move into money, with focus to the coins. The children will have a chance to learn about the values of the coins and joining them together through number sentences and group combinations. Along the way, they'll also review some fun value rhymes too!
Continuing in Learning about Our Culture
During our experiences in topics this week, the children will be sharing out their 'traditions' homework that identifies origins of their family, family photos and the sharing of their family's beloved traditions. The kids will also be creating family flags and then move into learning about the rich culture of black history in our nation.
