The Hunger Games
She has written other books such as, Gregor the overlander, The Underland Chronicles, etc. The genres of books she writes are for all ages, but mostly for young adults to adults because the hunger games for example is for a more mature audience, because the book is very detailed/ graphic. She also writes scifi fantasies and fiction novels.
The main characters are Katniss Everdeen, she is the narrator of the book. She is an older sister and loving girl, whose father died when she was younger. Before his passing he would take Katniss out hunting and taught her everything he knew about survival, hunting, and nature, she will do anything for her family and is always willing to help her mother out with anything she might need, she even volunteered to be apart of the hunger games, so then her sister would'nt have to because she knew she wouldn't survive. Peeta Mellark, is a baker's son who has two brothers, he is a more shy and stand offish type of guy, he also got chosen to be apart of the hunger games, he is in of the same district as katniss. They know of eachother, but are'nt friends by any means, but towards the end of the novel they start forming a great friendship and eventually become very close.
The Hunger Games is a very good and at some parts sad novel. This book is about a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen who very courageously volunteered to be apart of the annual game, just so her younger sister wouldn't have to because she knew she wouldn't survive. Katniss was the very first person in her district to volunteer themselves to be apart of the game. The hunger games is an annual game that occurs once every year, the game is the only social media that the districts get. It is basically like a reality tv show but a lot more violent. A boy and girl are randomly selected from a drawing, your name gets placed in the drawing based on how many things you buy at the local market, so the more you buy things the more your name will be placed in the bowl. Katniss wasn't the only one from her district to be apart of the game, a boy named Peeta Mellark is also apart of the game as well, but unlike Katniss he wasn't familiar with nature nor survival. Being that the districts are so small Katniss and Peeta knew of eachother but weren't friends, they grew up going to the same school but never really talking. Katniss wasn't a fan of Peeta at all because there was a time in her familie's life when they couldn't afford food for themselves and were starting to starve. She was sitting (under a tree) outside of the bakery where Peeta's family worked, he had burnt a piece of bread and was feeding it to the pigs and saw Katniss lying there hungry and didn't give her any of it. Throughout the book you see how Peeta's and Katniss's realtionship groes.Towards the end of the novel Peeta and Katniss become great friends possibly even start having feelings for eachother. Peeta even declares his love for Katniss since the moment he laid eyes on her. The game that the two kids are apart of is a very brutal game that is based on your survival skills, there will only be one winner at the end of the book. Who will win this years hunger games will Katniss kill Peeta or will it be the other way around? "Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor"
"My nightmares are usually about losing you,” he says. “I'm okay once I realize you're here.” - Peeta Mellark.
This quote represents Katniss and Peeta's relationship and how it grows throughout the book.
I personally loved this book so much. I felt like the author made the feelings and emotions of the main characters real. It felt like I was reading a movie because of how detailed it was, I fell in love with the relationship that Katniss and Peeta formed in the book, I really enjoyed how they included their relationship slowly throughout the book. It's funny because I actually cried at some of the parts of the book which doesn't happen often. The type of reader who would enjoy this book is someone who likes adventure, included with love and romance, because the book mostly takes place outside and theres a lot of death and killing and new things that are discovered in this book its very adventurous, it also shows a relationship between two characters that grows into something way more then just a friendship. Which the book shows their love for each other and how close they become (physically and emotionally). This book is definitely for a more mature audience because of some of the content and how descriptive it tends to be. It fits more with a teenage crowd and some adults may enjoy the book as well.
