Positive Behaviour Management
Presented by Ian Luscombe and Dr Alison Knight:
A BOSTES ( incorporating the NSW Institute of Teachers) endorsed course
NSW Seminars: Griffith and Newcastle
This seminar, the only one of its type in Australia, will discuss practical classroom behaviour management strategies (4 ¼ hours of the 5 hours) and nutritional medicine approaches (1 ¼ hour of the 5 hours) for dealing with and preventing the myriad of misbehaviours that teachers typically encounter in schools.
Some of the topics covered include:
• The three major strategies for managing disruptive behaviour.
• How to avoid confirming a student’s dysfunctional view of the world and themselves.
• Pyrrole disorder, which may present as explosive outbursts, anxiety and/or
oppositional behaviour.
• Dealing with non-compliance.
• How to turn a student’s vulnerability and your own vulnerability into a strength.
• Why some students say nasty / hurtful things.
• What to say when you don’t know what to say.
• The importance of establishing whole school systems of support and research proven examples.
• The difference between prevention and intervention and practical examples of each, and why it is important to focus the majority of our energy on prevention.
• How certain foods and food additives affect behaviour and what to look out for.
