The Weekly Hoot
May 21-27, 2018
Greetings All -
Whew!! What a week! It is Saturday morning and I am just getting around to the Hoot! Along with a little Royal wedding watching that I recorded and some laundry. Headed to an 80th birthday party and a graduation party later. May is truly the busiest month of the year, isn't it?
This past week was full of activity, but I know that we created some great memories for our students and we had them well prepared for the tests as well, and that makes it all worth it!
I hope all of you have seen the "moving schedule" that I sent out this week. Remember, I don't mind you using "student muscle" to move things this week if it is okay with the teacher whose room you are moving into, but please don't move furniture yet. Label it, and it will get moved this summer.
We are ready and willing to begin working on signing off on those checklists so let us know when we need to. Anything that physically needs to be turned in, we will have boxes for in the office beginning on TUESDAY. Please do not turn in your Emergency Folder until Thursday, May 31st after students leave.
A little side note...I have been seeing some "not so nice" posts on Facebook from some of our parents. "They are "so over" school right now." "Is it summer yet?" "Can't even deal anymore." etc... Believe me. I get it. We are ALL tired right now, but our attitude is contagious ya'll. If we aren't excited about being at school right now, no one will be. Please don't spread the "can summer get here any faster?" attitude that is so epidemic right now. Fight back with positive comments about how much fun we are going to have the next couple of weeks, how you are going to miss your group of kiddos this year, or just the fact that while you are tired, you couldn't imagine having any other job in the world. Positivity is a powerful force. It will perpetuate if we display it to the world. I bet after the horrific day Santa Fe ISD had yesterday, they would all be thrilled with another normal "insane" day of school during May instead of what they are dealing with right now.
As Michelle Moreland so eloquently put it on her FB post, "Today, I'm going to hug my kids a little tighter. I'm going to love and support my co-workers so much more. I'm not going to be end-of-year cranky at work. I'm going to high-five and smile at every kid I can. I'm not going to take a single moment for granted." Let's keep these thoughts in our minds as we ENJOY the next two weeks! Let the fun begin!
Love to all,
Marcy
Owl Wings This Week Go To...
To all of the faculty and staff that were at the school yesterday (5/18/18). Three field trips on one day sounded like a great idea, but we never really thought about how many teacher parents would be going as a field trip chaperone and how shorthanded that would leave us here at school. So thanks to everyone who pitched in by covering classes, duties, etc... It was appreciated and noticed. :)
And to all of you out there in the green hall, red hall, yellow hall, new and old blue hall trenches.... you are much appreciated!! This time of year is like childbirth. If you remembered it afterwards, you would never do it again. Thank you all for being the people you are and caring about these students, even when they are wild and crazy right now. All of you deserve Owl Wings for this past week and the next two. 8 1/2 days...let's do this!
