All prior communications from the district level, as well as all remote learning plans and resources can be found on the district website and any building websites. They are located on the mainpage under the first two “shortcut” links on the right side of every page. As a reminder, links for the remote learning plans will not be activated until April 6th at 8:00 a.m.

The middle school remote learning plan will detail remote learning for all 6th - 8th grade students. It will be housed on a Google Sheet and you can see an example of what it will look like by clicking here. You will utilize the tabs at the bottom to navigate. The sheet is organized by grade-level and course. So, if I am an 8th grader, all I need to do is click on the 8th grade tab, find the classes I am taking in the fourth quarter, and follow the linked plans. The remote learning plans are organized with one week of plans in each column. As a parent, you can support your learners in engaging with the learning experiences one week at a time. As a general rule, middle school students should only be spending about 2-4 hours per day engaged in remote learning experiences.
Students taking high school credited or College Credit Plus courses at SMS will follow the high school grading procedures below. With regard to the middle school grading procedures during this closure for students taking non-high school credited courses, remote learning experiences assigned from April 6th until such time as schools are physically reopened will not be formally assessed and/or graded by the teacher. Teachers may ask that work completed be submitted in a manner that they would communicate with you, so that the teacher can provide descriptive feedback. With regard to third quarter grades, they will be finalized based on all work submitted by students up to March 12, 2020. Even if we return on May 4th, no report card grades will be issued for the fourth quarter for any course. Student report cards will only have grades for Quarters 1, 2, and 3.
Athletic eligibility for Fall 2020 will be based upon third quarter grades. Teachers will be working with individual students to accept and grade any missing work from the third quarter or with those students at-risk to fail a course based on the fact that no fourth quarter grades will be taken. We will always work to do what is in the best interest of the student.
