As you can see from our list below, we are all excited for all the field trips and we are all getting super excited for the Abernethy Carnival on Friday! As you can imagine, that is a lot of excitement in the building!

We are hoping that this event will bring the Abernethy community together to share a meal, good conversations, laughs and the community of Abernethy spirit! There is no feeling of pressure, just some enjoyable time we all can have together.

Environmental Club Donation Request
We are still collecting your clean trash!
The 4th and 5th Grade Environmental Club is a newly formed club that meets during lunch and recess on Tuesdays in the counseling office. We need your help with a project! We are collecting clean trash items to make into art. Single use plastics are great (but please donate them clean without food debris on them). Some examples of good items to donate:
Bottle tops
Clamshell containers
Plastic bottles
Plastic utensils
Cardboard
Metal cans
To go coffee lids
There will be a box in the main hall by the office where you can leave your donations. Thank you!
Reading Results 2023-24 School Year!
Are you looking for a way to connect and share your expertise in reading with our school?
Reading Results is hiring tutors for next year! They have openings for community members to work as part-time, paid tutors next year. Reading Results is looking for tutors who are: driven to support student success, critical thinkers and ready/willing to learn (coachable), racially, ethnically and/or culturally reflective of your students. Who are we looking for?
- Directly support students in your school community by helping them build their reading skills and succeed in school!
- Work during the school day – 3 days/week for 2.5 hours
Tutors who are:
- Candidates who are driven to support student success
- Critical thinkers who are ready and willing to learn (you are coachable)
- Community members who racially, ethnically and/or culturally reflect our students
- A range of experience – we hire people with no experience to people who have taught elementary school for years.
All training and materials provided – no experience necessary – everyone is invited to apply!
Positions begin at: $18.50/hour

Save the date- Spring garden work party
Saturday June 3rd at 9 am
Saturday June 3rd at 9 am the grounds committee is hosting a work party to spruce up the grounds before summer break. If the weather works out we will be sanding and painting the fence along with mulching the garden, weeding, etc. If it rains we might move the date, so we will keep everyone posted. We will provide more specifics on the tools and materials we will need as we get closer.

Last PTA Community Meeting
Thursday, May 18th is the last PTA meeting of the year, and it is an important one!
Join us in the Auditorium from 6:30-8:00pm (or listen in on Zoom) to VOTE on the 2023/24 Final Budget, Standing Rules, and the PTA Executive Board.
We hope Fifth grade parents will attend too, because the Secretary from the Hosford Middle School PTSA will be joining us to answer all your questions about all things Hosford.
GAGA Ball Set Up!
Can you spare a muscle or two?
If you are at pick up or drop off on Tuesday's or Thursday's we could use your help! We have students who would love to set up the GAGA Ball court, but could use some extra strength!
We are looking for some set up help on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons.

JOIN US for This Year’s All School Carnival!
This Friday, May 19, 5:30 - 8pm
Families can enjoy carnival games and prizes, inflatable obstacle courses, musical cakes, face-painting, balloon animals and a photo booth. You won’t want to miss it!
Here are a few important details:
Purchase Wristbands Here! In addition to unlimited games and activities, admission wristbands allow each child one cotton candy, one popcorn and one donut. Wristbands are for kids only and DO NOT cover food purchased from third-party vendors, such as pizza or shaved ice. Wristbands also do not cover Fairy Sparkle hair services. Please contact counselor Jenny Morgan (jmorgan1@pps.net) if you or someone you know is in need of financial assistance.
Parents! We need your help to make this event happen! Volunteer Here! Please consider volunteering for a short shift. There are a variety of times and activities to choose from.
