Tiger Teacher Beat
October Edition 2019
Changing of the Seasons
I love this time of year. I love the changing of the leaves, the smell of pumpkin spice everywhere, the many shades of orange, and the eruption of cheers from the stands on game day. This also seems to be the first moment of change we experience as educators during the school year. The excitement of beginning a new school year has worn off, and now we have started to get in a routine and have focused on standards and instruction. We have developed relationships with our students and can see them as individuals with many different needs. Some need to be motivated, some need to be challenged, some need to be cultivated, and others just need to be hugged. I am often reminded of the movie, "Facing the Giants" during the fall football season. We are all leaders in the classroom and in this school. You are the most influential person in the room. When working with students, the load is heavy and the year feels like a "death crawl". Just remember that encouragement, motivation, and love will go a long way. By the end of the year, I believe many of your students will reach the "end zone". Keep this in mind as we begin to look at our student data and provide the appropriate instruction for our students during RIME time and Small Groups. This edition is full of resources to support instruction in ELA and Math during this time.
As we create our small groups, RIME groups, SMART Goals, and Tier plans, I just want to draw your attention to the Relevance Rubric. This will be a focus as we plan instruction this month. This supports how we are trying to make the curriculum and our instruction relevant to the individual needs of the students we teach. As you are focusing on RELEVANCE this month and the rest of the year, remember that we do this through the gradual release process, differentiated instruction, and student engagement using research based resources and instructional practices.
