The Love of a Mother and Son
This weekend, we remember St. Monica and her son St. Augustine, two very well known saints in the Church. St. Monica is remembered for her perseverance, her suffering, and her commitment to her family. When her son, St. Augustine, strayed from his faith and lived a life of sin, she prayed for fifteen years for his conversion. St. Augustine finally returned to the Church, and he was and still is a wonderful spiritual guide, especially through his deep spiritual writings, and he became one of the most influential bishops in the early Church. St. Augustine remains one of the greatest theologians in the history of the Church.
The story of St. Monica is a powerful story of faith and family, as St. Monica never gave up on either faith or family. The power of prayer and a willingness to be open to God's timing are invaluable for us as parents as we remember the story of these two great saints, mother and son.
“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” (From Confessions by St. Augustine of Hippo)

We received confirmation from the Archdiocese this week regarding COVID-19 policies. As I wrote last week, we will begin this school year without the need to wear masks at school, and we will, of course, support the choice of any family or individual who chooses to wear a mask at school. We ask all families to continue to encourage frequent hand washing, to watch their children for symptoms, and to keep their children home if they are sick. Currently, there are no restrictions on social distancing, no necessity for virtual learning, and no necessity for quarantining entire classes or schools.
