The Lincoln Lightning
"Your SPARK of information!"
February 4th, 2022
Good Afternoon Lincoln Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful week. We've been busy learning and growing and I continue to be impressed with our students and staff. I am thankful for them every day. I had the great privilege of visiting many classrooms and seeing some fun and engaging lessons. I've learned about multiples, main and supporting characters, thinking through perspectives, and character traits.
We're thrilled to have a Valentine exchange next Friday, February 11th for our Friendship Day. I thank all the teachers and room parents for their support. We're so excited to engage in activities to celebrate love and friendship.
Warm regards,
Michelle Miner, Ed.D
Principal, Lincoln Elementary

Volunteers/Visitors
In an effort to make Lincoln the safest possible environment for our children, we ask that all visitors and volunteers please sign in at the office (Driver’s License required) and always wear a nametag identifying yourself as a visitor, including volunteering on our playground and our outdoor classroom. All staff members have been directed to ask adults not wearing proper identification to return to the office. We know you agree that safety must be our number one concern.
Also, we request that all volunteers and chaperones complete a background check verification form. We no longer use paper applications. In compliance with board policies, our district began this procedure a few years ago. We’re sorry for the inconvenience but this practice ensures the safest environment for our children. The completed background checks are valid for three years.

NEW: Parents United February Events
Please see below for information about this month’s Parents United events.
The Three Deadly Accommodations - Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 9:00 - 11:30 am (conducted via Zoom). Did you know that there are accommodations that are routinely offered in elementary, middle and high school that are not offered on the job? These same accommodations may not be available, or may be offered in a different format, in college and technical schools. Will your student be ready for the differences? What options are available if a student is using one of these “deadly” accommodations? This workshop will discuss accommodations and expectations of the world beyond high school, and offer ideas for preparing students for higher education and employment. Click here to register.
A Walk Through Guide to Guardianship and Decision-Making Options AND Special Needs Financial Planning - Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:30 pm (in-person at Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield and online via Zoom). In this session, participants will learn about a spectrum of decision-making options available for people with disabilities. We will discuss informal supports, supported decision-making agreements, powers of attorney, and guardianship, and cover both personal/health care and financial/estate decisions. We will discuss 529 ABLE Savings Accounts and Special Needs Trusts (SNTs), and learn how these planning tools interact with one another. Click here to register.
COVID-19 Testing for All District Stakeholders
The Wauwatosa School District has partnered with Summit Labs to offer COVID-19 testing to all district staff, students and individuals who live with a staff member or current student. The testing site is located on the east side of the lower level parking lot at the Fisher Administration Building (12121 W. North Avenue).
Testing hours are Monday - Friday, 7 am to 2 pm and 4 to 6 pm. Testing will be unavailable between 2 and 4 pm to ensure traffic does not interfere with drop off procedures at Wauwatosa Montessori School. We are not taking appointments and all individuals will be tested in the order of their arrival.
If you would like to expedite the process, you may pre-register before you arrive on site by visiting http://register.covidconnect.wi.gov. If you choose to pre-register you must still follow the arrival process outlined on the sign outside of the trailer.
