What a wonderful week learning all about the great leaders of our country!

Here's what we learned:
Language Arts: We reviewed our sight words. We learned the new sight words in and and. We read the big book George Washington visits. We discussed the characters in the story and learned about cause and effect of why things happened in the story. We learned the amazing words: barn, arch, soldier, blacksmith, celebration and sprinted. Students used these words in their speech, writing and reading. Students worked in differentiated reading groups and answer higher level comprehension questions about their book. We discussed the main idea of the book. Students completed writings based on their book.
Phonics : We concentrated on the consonant blends. We focused on the blends sh. We read books and brainstormed words that begin and end with the sh sound. Students wrote sh word and even wrote them in sentences.
Math: Students learned the beginning stages of subtraction. Student learned the math terms, take away, less than, and how many are left. Students used manipulatives and a math number line to help them with this skill. Students completed a variety of math centers focusing on this skill using the i-pads, computer, math journal and subtraction hands on centers.
Social Studies/ Science : We learned all about George Washington and Abe Lincoln. Students helped chart facts about these two important Presidents. Students listened to a variety of non-fiction books based on these Presidents. Students completed informational writing about these men and wrote why they were so important to our county.

Reminders and upcoming events:
- Spirit Shirts next Friday 2/26
- Next week is DEAR week ( Drop everything and read) Please have your child bring in a book everyday that they can read!!! We will stop and read each day at different times!
- 3/2 is Read across America day!! We will celebrate our reading success all day and end it with Mr. Rodia getting turned into an ice cream sundae if we reach our reading goal!!!
- 3/3 Dress down and wear blue for Trustworthy day!
We will be going on a trip to see the play "Miss Nelson is Missing" based on the book written by : James Marshall
We will go on our trip to the Keswick theater March 8th from 8:15-12:30. We will be able to take Chaperones on a first come basis. If you are interested please contact me.
