In North Carolina in the US is the largest lagoon along the North American East Coast. It is part of a large, interconnected network of lagoon estuaries that includes many others.

The Pamlico supports a variety of habitats including wetlands, rivers, and creeks. And there lives a diversity of organisms. It's important to over 75 species of fish and shellfish.

Five animals found

Dolphins and sea turtles, seals such as heap seals, also whales such as fin whales and fish like flounder, and striped bass.

Three rivers, streams that feed into Pamlico Sound

The Chowan, Roanoke, Pasquotank, Tar- Pamlico, and Neuse are five major river basins that flow into the Sounds.
