St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 7 - Term 2 (Thursday 13 June 2019)
Dear Parents and members of our school community
St Anthony of Padua - Feast Day 13 June
St. Anthony was born in Lisbon in 1195. He entered religious life as an Augustinian monk but was immensely impressed with the Franciscans who took him into their order. On his first mission Anthony got sick in Morocco and returned to run a hospice.
Called upon to preach in an emergency situation, this Franciscan monk came through with flying colors and was assigned to preach and teach theology for the friars. His sermons mixed spiritual uplift with prophetic commentary on the greed and selfishness of the times.
Anthony died on June 13, 1231, at the tender age of 36. He was made a saint one year after his passing, and in 1946 he was declared a Doctor of the Church. He is known as the patron saint of finding lost objects.
The Fathering Project
I've added the link to their very informative website here https://thefatheringproject.org/
We need two to six dads to really kick start this idea.
We're Building Communities of Dads
As Fathers and Father figures, it’s easy to get lost in our other roles and forget what our first job is. Yet it’s the most important job we’ll ever do. Because what we do, or don’t do as Dads, has an enormous impact on the happiness and health of the kids we love.
Together, we can help build resilience, self-respect and emotional intelligence. We can show boys how men should treat women. We can show girls how good men behave. And, we can give our kids a great deal of self-worth, just by showing up and being there.
The Fathering Project aims to positively promote the important role of Fathers, and Father figures, through the formation of Dads Groups in schools, communities and the work place.
It only takes one dad to suggest that a group be formed and create an enjoyable, informal and social environment for Fathers, and Father figures that builds interaction, knowledge and skills.
The Fathering Project suggests to begin small and then add more events as the word spreads that we're about fun with our kids and their dads or father figures. They suggest one event just for the dads and one for the children with their dads.
Here are some of the events local schools have organized. All very easy to attend with minimal fuss.
Some examples of Dads and Kids events:-
1. Paper planes and pizza.
2. Dads and daughters hairdressing event.

St Jerome’s children helping disadvantaged children and Making Jesus Real!
Plastic bottle tops recycled to make artificial hands for children damaged by war.
Please help us by collecting plastic bottle tops from any kind of container that you have at home and bringing them along to the school office or the church lobby where you will find a box to place them in. Spread the word among your family and friends about this wonderful initiative and start collecting so that we can make a difference to those children affected so tragically by war. We will be making a difference to these children and also helping our environment.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes

Extension Room News
In Week 6, our Year 3 students entered their books into the “Create Your Own Storybook” competition. It gave the students a wonderful feeling to write and illustrate their very first book. Congratulations Year 3!
We have had our first of four groups participate in “Write a Book in a Day” this week. “The Ten Pens” were very creative in following the parameters and required words to produce a book titled “Daintree Love”. We have lots of budding authors and illustrators at St.Jerome’s!
