WHS GrassBurr - The Paper With Many Points (official news source of WHS)
Lady Roo Wrestlers Winning On And Off The Mat by Shelby Gilley, Staff Writer
"WHS has several extracurricular activities, but especially take pride in our state ranked WHS Lady Roo Wrestling team. Wrestling not only one of the roughest, toughest sport but it is also the oldest. Being a WHS wrestler requires blood sweat and tears, pushing the wrestlers’ mental capacity and physical capabilities to maximum overdrive." Read more here.

News From The Hoop
The Lady Roos came up on the short end against Haltom last Tuesday night, 48-53. Down 32-20 at half, the Lady Rooskies had to scrap the game plan and go into scramble defense mode and clawed their way back into the game, only to fall short in the last two minutes of the game.
The girls left it all on the court the second half, but sometimes you just can't get the ball to drop when you need it too. Anna "AJP" Jefferson Polk lead the way with 26 and now leads the DFW metroplex in scoring at 21.3 ppg. Tyara "THE TARGET" Buckner added 7, BIG NASTY Gabbie Huggins added 6 but maintained her 10.8 rpg avg with 11 boards, SYD "the Squid" STEFFLER added 3, KARA "Plano Mall" ROTHROCK added 6, and NICOLE "the mole" MARTINEZ added 2.
Then, last Friday night, Anna "AJP" Jefferson-Polk put in 27pts against Keller Central, and she had to earn every single one of them as she faced a diamond and 1 defense all night long. Central kept it within single digits then pulled within 3 in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Roos pulled away with clutch free throws and two huge steal breakaway layups in the last two minutes to get the win 43-33 over the Lady Chargers.
Buckner hit the double digit mark with 10, Rothrock had 4, and Huggins had 2.
The Lady Roos move to 5-3 in district and face 1-7 Fossil Ridge Tuesday night here at the Outback Walkabout at 6pm. Come out and show your support!

Roo Soccer Update
Thursday, JV1 beat Castleberry 2-0 in their first round before losing the second game of the day to South Hills.
The Varsity Boys Soccer team came back to beat Burleson Friday night 3-0 and Benbrook 2-0 on Saturday morning to advance to the Third Place Game. They played Burleson again in an epic battle. The Burleson Elks took the lead in the first half after they scored to go up 1-0. The Roos fought back and tied the score with 15 minutes left in the game with an incredible goal of their own by Vincent Santibanez assisted by Jesus Hernandez. The game ended in a tie, and the Roos lost in penalty kicks.
The Roos will regroup this week and play at Chisolm Trail on Tueday and Aledo at home on Friday before district starts. Way to go Roos!

WC Opens Scholarship Application System for 2018-19
Weatherford College has opened its online scholarship application system for 2018-19 academic year scholarships provided by the WC Foundation.
To start the application process, students should visit www.wc.edu/scholarships and use their existing “MyWC” login credentials to enter the system. Students must have completed the overall WC application to apply for scholarships.
The deadline to apply is March 24. The scholarships will begin in the fall 2018 semester, and many awards will renew for spring 2019, pending fall GPAs.
The WC Foundation gives more than $240,000 in scholarships per academic year from more than 100 permanently-endowed funds and many other non-endowed scholarships. More than 500 applications were submitted last year.
The typical scholarship is $1,000 per semester. Each scholarship fund has its own set of criteria, established by the donor. Students complete the online application once and the Financial Aid Office and multiple selection committees work to match students with applicable scholarships.
