Principal's Corner

Dear Parents,

Dear Parents,

Welcome to October! This is a big month for us which ends with the long-awaited visit from the Middle States Association team of educators. The team will arrive on Tuesday, October 25th, and remain on campus until Friday, October 28th. This team of educators will observe operations and classes seeking evidence of items outlined in our recent self-study. Before leaving on Friday, the team will give an oral report to the faculty with an indication for their recommendation for re-accreditation. A limited number of parents and students may be called upon to meet with team members. Please do not hesitate to make it known if you would like to participate in these interviews.

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Only recently did I watch the film Fatima which tells the story of Our Blessed Mother’s appearances to three Portuguese children, Lucia dos Santos, Francisco, and Jacinta Marto in 1917. Over and over again, Our Lady instructed the people to pray the Rosary for peace in the world. During this month dedicated to the Holy Rosary, I encourage the students to pray the Rosary. It is a beautiful prayer that soothes the soul. The month will culminate with the Student Council leading a Living Rosary on October 28th.

At this time, we are still in a bit of flux with staffing. Friday, September 30th was Mr. Lacey’s last day at SAS. Mr. Jovani Tablezo is set to replace Mr. Lacey as homeroom teacher in 6A and Science teacher for 6A, and the 7th and 8th grades. Mr. Tablezo has several years of experience teaching middle school science in the Philippines and is currently at the Vanguard School. Mr. Tablezo will start at SAS on October 10th, In the meantime, Mrs. Sandy Kritz will be a guest teacher in 6A.

At the same time, Mrs. Michelle Brown remains away from school on Family Medical Leave. Fortunately, we have Mrs. Kritz, Mrs. Canio, and Mrs. Light assisting in the preschool until Mrs. Brown returns.

After an unfruitful search for an advanced math teacher to replace Mrs. Conners, I am most grateful to Mrs. Tomasetti who stepped up to teach advanced math classes in middle school. The same gratitude goes to Mrs. Albanese who agreed to stay for full days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in order to provide reading support to 1st and 2nd-grade students while our search switched to that of a reading specialist. However, I learned this past weekend from Mrs. Conner's of her desire to return to Saint Andrew School. Of course, we welcome this beloved teacher back with open arms! Very soon Mrs. Tomasetti will be back in the reading support room. God has been good to us! Due to the dedication of our teachers, our students are cared for quite well.

The students have elected their officers and homeroom representatives for Student Council. The officers held their first meeting last week and brought forth many great ideas to the administration. The Installation of Student Council will take place at Mass on October 20th at 8:30.

As time rolls into November, we look forward to the Centennial celebration of Saint Andrew School. Current families are encouraged to join us at a special Alumni Mass celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 5 pm.

Following Mass, we will gather at The Drexelbrook Grand Ballroom, 4700 Drexelbrook Drive, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 pm with a “cash only” (no credit cards) bar and appetizers. Dinner will be served buffet style at 7:30 pm. Music and dancing will be provided by Schaffer Sound Productions. Our event concludes at 10:30 pm.

Let us continue to believe and be the Good in this world!

CYO Basketball Registration is now open

Dear St. Andrew Families,

Registration for St. Andrew CYO basketball is now open on our new SportsEngine registration site.

As you may be aware, the registration platform that we have used for years - Sport Signup Play - will no longer be available for our use following the current Fall sports season. We have made the decision to move to a new platform, SportsEngine, so if you do not already have a SportsEngine account, you will need to create one to sign up.

CYO basketball is open to all parish youth, grades 3-12. The JV and Varsity season runs from early November into February.

JV (5th & 6th) and varsity (7th & 8th) basketball tryouts will begin in early November. Children must be registered in order to try out for a team. Registrants will receive an email once registration closes indicating the times and locations of the tryouts.

All JV and varsity teams will have tryouts, as needed, and decisions regarding cuts and the formation of B-league teams will be determined based on the number of children who signed up/tried out, the interest in forming a B-league team, and the willingness of someone to coach the team. There are no coaches for “B” teams as of now; if your child is assigned to the B-league team please consider volunteering to coach so as to allow the kids a chance to play, compete, and improve in an environment well-suited to their abilities. If you are able to volunteer, please register through SportsEngine or send an email to

Payment must be made at the time of registration. Registrants who do not participate will be given a full refund if withdrawn prior to the first scheduled practice. A refund will also be issued if a team does not form for whatever reason. If you have any questions, or any difficulty getting onto the website, please send a message to

JJV (3rd and 4th grade) registration will likely be extended, as that level does not begin until mid-December/early January, but please sign up right away so that we might gauge interest.

Please note, in the coming weeks, existing St. Andrew CYO members who choose not to sign up for basketball will be sent an invitation to connect to our new site to receive future communications about CYO sports and activities.
