Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 6 | 1 JUNE 2022
The Year 5’s have been learning all about the Australian Gold Rush. On Friday, we visited the Perth Mint in East Perth to learn all about how gold is kept in Perth, as well as the Moort-ak Waadiny (Children’s Playground) to eat our lunch and play. We had such an enjoyable day!
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
We are halfway through Term 2 and our teachers are currently working on end of Semester 1 reports. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and Catholic Education Western Australia have acknowledged the impact of the high rates of absenteeism of students and staff due to Covid-19, on the ability of schools to meaningfully report with grades. The reports that you will receive this term will therefore be modified as was the case in 2020 when we had our first cases of Covid and lockdown days in Western Australia. There would be very few families in our school community, who have not been touched by the impacts of Covid, over the course of Term 1 and 2 this year. Consequently, our school will not be providing grades in this semesters’ report. Our reports will have a general comment with an indication for student effort.
I would also like to advise families of an incident that one of our students experienced yesterday while walking home from school. Our student was confronted by three young teenage boys who demanded he had over his school bag. When our student refused, he was pushed into a bush on Hudson Oval. Our advice to families is that if your child walks to or from school, they do so with other students if possible, as there is always greater safety in numbers. This incident has been reported to police.
Before school today, there was an accident on Girrawheen Avenue, involving a pedestrian. Some of our students might have seen the incident while walking to school. If you have any concerns or your child is struggling to deal with what they saw, please let your child’s classroom teacher know.
We ask that families keep our Year 6 students in their prayers as they will be making their Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend.
A reminder that Monday next week is a public holiday and we wish everyone a restful long weekend.
God bless you all.
Ondine Komnick
Principal

The school photo days are on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 June 2022. Today every student will receive a personalised order envelope to bring home from Kapture Photography. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. If you pay online, there is no need to return the order envelope to school.
KEEP YOUR ORDER ENVELOPE SECURE!
The unique codes contained on the envelope will be issued only once.
Alternatively, you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day. Please note the photographers cannot provide change.
Order EARLY for sibling photography
Sibling photos can ONLY be ordered online. Once you receive your envelope, it is imperative that you order your sibling photo early to avoid missing out! The school or the photographers cannot accept late orders for sibling photography. Please do not ask as your request simply cannot be accommodated.
