Maus II: A Survivors Tale

By: Art Spiegelman

Introduction

the author of Maus 2 is Art Spiegelman. I chose this book for many reasons, One reason is I read the first book and it was great and when i herd there was a second one I went and checked it out of the library. the second reason I chose the book is because of the authors way of using pictures and description to help the reader visualize what is really happening as they read. the last reason I chose the book is because of the authors way of conveying the persons story and they way it makes you fell as you read.

Summary

my book is about one of the most horrible events in history and one persons tale of how he survived it. My book is about how one man went from being rich to the camp of Auschwitz. A man by the name of Valdek Spiegelman grew up in New York, in 1937 Valdek marries Art's mother in Poland. Anja's father gives Valdek his own textile factory and things were good until the Germans came. Valdek ends up in 4 different camps and through all that he gets typhus and has to barter his way around the camps.

There were three major events that happened. one of the major events that happened was when Valdek was in Auschwitz as a tinsmith and because he was rich and had a lot of money at the time he had to barter with his gold jewelry otherwise he would have been beaten.

the second major event is when the Germans started to make a run further in to Germany after the Americans started to get closer to the camps and so the Germans made every prisoner march further and further into Germany until they hit the next camp and as they got further and further into Germany they conditions they lived in got worse and worse.

the third major event was toward the end of the book when the Germans put all the prisoners in cattle cars and made them go to the bathroom where they stood the only stops they made was to empty the dead out of the cars, and after several days the cars finally arrived at the second Auschwitz camp and there is were Valdek stayed for most of what was left of the war.

Opinion on the book

My opinion of Maus II is that it is a very good book because of its new perspective on the Holocaust, I would recommend it to a friend for many reasons. one reason i would recommend this book to a friend is because it tells about a very important event in history through a survivors eyes.

The second reason i would recommend this book to a friend is because it allows you to see a detailed account of what a prisoner went through during the time. that is the second reason i would recommend this to a friend.

the third reason i would recommend this book to a friend is because it gives a totally different perspective than the one you see on TV when you watch a documentary on the Holocaust. these are the reasons why I would recommend this book to a Friend
