Spring is in the air!

K-2 Read Aloud
By Kevin Henkes
Before spring comes, the trees are dark sticks, the grass is brown, and the ground is covered in snow. But if you wait, leaves unfurl and flowers blossom, the grass turns green, and the mounds of snow shrink and shrink. Spring brings baby birds, sprouting seeds, rain and mud, and puddles. You can feel it and smell it and hear it—and you can read it!
Let's Write about it!
One the paper that your teacher provided, please wirte and draw about SPRING!
- What does spring SMELL like?
- What does spring SOUND like?
- What does spring FEEL like?
3-5 Read Aloud
Spring is in the air! Bear, Bird, and Mouse are all excited that winter snows are melting away, but their friend Rabbit is not. There are too many things about winter that Rabbit adores, and spring just seems to spell trouble. His friends offer an abundance of reasons to love spring and the changing seasons, but will Rabbit listen?
Point of View RL.6
Essential Question: How will readers determine different points of view?
Think about the story. Do you agree with the way the characters are thinking in this story? Do you agree with the way the narrator is thinking in this story? How is your thinking the same or different?
Why do we have different seasons?
As Earth moves around the Sun it spins in a slightly tilted position (on an axis tilted 23.5 degrees from a straight up, vertical position). This tilt is what causes our seasons because through the year different parts of the planet are closer to or further away from the Sun's light. More or less sunlight and heat impact on the length of each day and the average daily temperature in different seasons, as well as the amount of rainfall.
